Just put my money down for a new 372XP. Will be cutting mostly soft woods like pine and Utah juniper (cedar) which can collect a lot of sand in the bark. I am thinking of using Stihl RS for the chain. I will be running 20" .050- 3/8" for consistency with the Ranchers and I'd like to stay with my round files. What other chain should I be looking at??? Great forum by the way!
RM is semi chisel and should keep its edge better in dirty wood....... it will still rip through softwoods. Congrats on the new saw, great choice
What they said^^^^^^^^ and great elk by the way. I made my first elk venture last year and wow was that a great time.
I know you mentioned Stihl chain...and that's a good choice. My experience tells me that it holds an edge better than others. I cut a lot of osage orange and it naturally has a high silica content...and the Stihl holds an edge better than the Husky chain I've used. That being said, I use RS chain...and it dulls quicker...but not enough for me to get excited about.
This forum is awesome and so are you guys! That is my best bull ever, killed this last season. Unit 10 in AZ. I love hunting...not very good at it but I have killed a few. Fair chase on public land. Not bad for a fat kid. Thanks for the help!
