I recently sold a load and after he stacked it, he mentioned noticing how gnarly some piece were and that it must be more of a pain that he'd thought. The limb grain typically goes into the center of the main.

    Which splitter?
Here's another discussion from earlier this year. Much the same.
Dennis made some good points about cycle times.
    Fatboy put umbrellas on his.
and one had a vice added

A splitter is a great investment. I bought mine off of Craigslist for 700$. As long as I keep it nice it will always be worth around that much. How can you go wrong? I see them on CL for as much as new ones! They save save a ton of time and acetaminophen.

Remember I was just born yesterday... .... and in the dark...

All I'm saying is my splitter is still ready to split while I'm wore out... but then again that's why it's great to be 4 or five years ahead...

    I have 22 ton speeco
Well made, nice wedge, good fuel economy
Splits everything I put on it
Any that it wouldn’t I’d noodle or compost it.
Probably end up in the ugly pile anyway.

But if you believe you have the need for
    more power,
Seems to be a reasonable price.

They are a back & time saving tool
Any of the ones mentioned above will most likely do what you want. (Split wood)

    I’ve learned
“Get the one you like “
Gonna have it many years :)

You're just too fast you have to slow down or that will pop up

I've got the 35T DHT. Got it last year. Put three cords thru so far. No problems. I haven't had a problem with the cycle time, but I'm not out there racing either. I tend to overbuy. May have with this one. I thing the 22 or 27 would be fine. You're not going to move this one around without a tractor or 4x4. Also, pretty heave to lift to vertical. I'm not sure where the weight savings is on the smaller ones, but its heavy to lift, and will be getting heavier...

I haven't had experience with many others, but I happy with what I got.

My inner gear geek and future-proofer and finance steward are having quite the epic battle.

I do know this: I have only used fairly inexpensive units in the 22-ton range thus far, and have never been left wanting much.

I do tend to adopt the ethos of never regretting buying more tool as well, so you can see my dilemma. I mean, I cut firewood with a Stihl 441 and haul it with an F350 diesel, for reference...and love every minute of it. In all honesty, a lot of my over-spec'ing comes from seeing my Dad struggle with sub-standard gear for so long, and realizing that at this point in my life I have more $ than I do time.

So...tell me more about these kinetic units?

Picked up the 35T Huskee/Speedco back in 08 for out at my friends place where we process most wood and sell most wood. Last year I got the Country Line/Speedco 25T for the house. 25T is plenty and I have not had any trouble with tipping.
The DHT looks very nice and will serve you well. Let us know what you decide to get.
