What do y'all think if this model at this price point? I know DHT has a reputation for good quality and excellent customer service.

I'd seriously consider the kinetic splitters. They are sooo much quicker.

Not sure why but the 28 ton is discontinued model.
    27 ton is $1250
Something to consider if you are ever going to move it around by hand the 35-ton is about 100 pounds heavier than the 22 or 27

The 22 ton Huskee/Speeco/County Line/Tractor Supply splitter has split everything up to 32" oak rounds for me with no trouble. I see no reason to buy a 28 or 35 ton splitter.

Every year (or at least the last 4) on Black Friday, Tractor Supply runs a special on the 22 ton splitter for $850. The regular price is $1000

I think you will be very happy my friend. I ran a Kohler for years on a Wheelhorse tractor and had zero issues. I went with the Honda engine because when I bought, I went half with a friend who insisted on Honda. I have since bought him out and am the sole owner but I would not hesitate to go DHT, love the look and the log cradle is far superior to what I got on the Cub and they have no 4 way wedge available. I'm happy with my splitter but may well have gone DHT if not for what I explained above. Go for it!

I've had some apple that works my 34 pretty hard. On straight logs I agree. On elm and some others I don't think 22 would get it done very fast.

The county line 25-ton at Tractor Supply is $899 right now, 150lbs lighter

I'd just buy one of the DHT 22-25 ton models that are stocked at the box stores...those will split 99.9% of anything you ever come across...and much faster too.
Can get 'em for $899 or less on sale...
There was just recently a fairly large and educational thread about this very subject over on that other site that you (and I ) are on...(IIRC it was called "log splitter from big box store")

If you don't care about weight or price go ahead with the 35 ton, 13 second cycle time is good

The investment is well worth it... It doesn't mean if you feel like you cant do it the old fashion way:axe:, but the luxury is well worth the :makeitrain"... Did I mention that? :D... Now with Costco the no ask return policy is worth a bit too, just saying.... Otherwise price check between here and Black Friday..:axe:

TurboDiesel the more I think about it, I'm processing a lot of apple and most people aren't getting wood like they grow (or are trimmed to). I guess that is what makes me use all 34T. I sometimes have to slice through crotches etc.

With that big stove you have now, you should stop thinking about it and just find what you want and pull the trigger:D:dex:

I agree, occasionally you can get the wedge stuck in a nasty log. Might have to noodle one once in a while.
Just didn't want the OP to spend more money on something thats not needed.
You're lucky to get apple that big! :dex:

My 23T will slice crotches...pump shifts to low, but I bet they all do in that situation...personally I'd rather have the faster cycle time than the brute force...
