Temps. in the mid- 40's tonight. Stove running, about to fill it about 1/2 way for the overnight burn. The house would not normally need that much heat but there are places around that have no insulation whatsoever and a couple of places actually open to the outside..... such is the nature of a major rebuild unfortunately. So I will have to burn a few more splits before the biggest leaks are plugged and the open places insulated, which should be w/in two weeks. The second floor still has no insulation and open soffits and ridge vents but one thing at a time...... Brian
This is a very low 'n slow burn on my Ideal Steel. Enough to keep the house comformtable but not overheat it. The four temperatures are: Top left: combustor temp. Bottom left: Firebox temperautre (internal). Top Right Flue gas temperature (inside teh smoke pipe) Bottom right: Stove top temp., the hottest part of the stove top, just next to the smoke pipe collar. Brian
It never got above 40° today. I loaded some white pine, and elm chunky monkeys in the quadrafire after work. Time for a few more pieces to rechooch it for overnight. 38° outside now. Today's high and low has to be literally a couple of degrees. Weird.
We’re at 47° here, dropping pretty quickly. I just started the burn inside Black October. Should hit the nail on the head for tonight and tomorrow is supposed to be close to 70 but temps dropping more at night as it becomes clear. Next weekend temps look to go below freezing and not much above 45° in the day. I'm anticipating this coming weekend! Here she is at start up.
What’s burning? I’ve got doug fir, not counting the hardwood kindling though. The doug doesn’t need much...
34 and cloudy to low 40's today, the greedy hungry beast is feeding on soft maple, tree trimmer stuff. Split the wife some ash so she could feed the beast while I'm at work.
28F outside and 75 inside ... They just said its the coldest its been since March 15th.... So its been a few days. We are right on time for the average of this temp, last year we waited til the second week of November to get a freeze...
30F outside this morning (low) headed for a whopping 39F. Reloaded for the day with a little red oak, elm, and boxelder limbs to fill the gaps. Have a karate belt promotion today for the kids and then on to a bowling birthday party for the middle little. And then back home to chill infront of the stove after a long busy stressful week. Little to cold to be putzin in the garage today. Got the saw and chains all sharpened cleaned up last weekend. Might go after some fieldline mix tomorrow. Caught a farmer as he was picking beans and he said I could have a whole pile of logs he had cleared this spring. That will get worked up into sellable firepit wood. Easy work for being able to sell for about $130 a truck load next spring/summer!
Mornin everybody it’s 0418 this lovely Alaskan day I awoke to 21* and will be a high of 31*. Spruce has the house at 75*. Coffee is perking forecast looking good. Going to up some saw my two boys see what the day has in store. Planing my day around lunch. Prime rib samich on a yeast hoggie roll an au jou.
Sitting at 0 C (32 F) for the time being, and apparently heading to +10 C (50 F) by this afternoon. Might go take one last crack at fishing before it gets chilly again.
I love the secondaries. That’s something to experience. Can’t do it that well with a outside fire. Although it gets close when its super hot from hardwoods burning and the coals are just letting blue licking flames appear.
It was a beautiful 65 degrees here this afternoon. My son and I couldn't believe how nice it was out while we moved and restocked firewood. Slowly starting to drop now. It's 61. No fires yet this season.
