freaking tree is a good 60" across at its base! I dont mess with that stuff. I cut up what i could handle today.
I took some 40+" stuff one time. Never again. Sure each round makes a ton of splits but the time it takes to mover it around to get it to quarters you can work up 2x the amout of wood in say 18" stuff. It's not till it's quartered that you can move it very well. Maybe if you had 2 people but I usually am working alone.
That one is about 5 years old. Around here the cable skidders is all you can use with the very steep terrain. Slower than a grapple skidder but the only thing that works in the bluffs which are sometimes so steep the skidder has to back against a tree to winch the cable in up the grade.
Yea I figured cause yall have steep slopes is why there still around. All I ever see is old timber jack skidders with cables and then those are up in the moutains or a really low production logger...like a load a day type. Most of my loggers run Tiger cat 620's or a few run JD 848's . When I started 10 years ago (forester not a logger) all my loggers ran JD 648 or Cat 520 , no one runs cat anymore, had one with a Cat 540.
Here’s mine....I have two...sometimes I even end up with a few pieces of firewood in them. Sometimes...
How does that trailer work out? Do you load it right up to the brim? Does is have the stock axle, and what is the rating of the axle? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
