Any ideas of cleaning inside pipe that goes thru the wall instead of taking it off, I don't mind taking it off just curious if there is an easier way thanks fhc
I would think something rigged to one of those cheapo push vac/shop vac plastic hoses may work. Assuming your chimney doesn't need a severe scrubbing in the area. My pipe goes straight up, but everything down low in the pipe could be scrubbed out with your bare fingers. Maybe that's all you'd need?
I try and long wire brush and a vac , ill see how that works, I have 2 feet of pipe with a slight bend going thru the wall
If it ends at an elbow, you can drill a small hole, about 3/16" or so through the elbow right in the middle, then use a screw to drop into the hole (not threaded in, just resting in place) to close it off. A piece of welding wire or an old wire coat hanger can then be used to fish through the hole, and a small circle bent into the end can be used to scrape the thimble, it works surprisingly well. It also affords you a chance to take a look into the thimble at any time to see if there is any build- up in there. The elbow can also be replaced with a Tee, the open face of the Tee capped, and the cap removed when needed for inspection / cleaning. Brian
We just use a wire brush that we've lengthened the handle (just tape on a couple rods). Also a vacuum with a long extension will work fine.
Things are going well here my friend. Let us hope it goes well for all! Stove is giving us heat right now and looks like we are at that point of having a fire every day or night.
