Is it wrong that I kind of wish the guy had got out of the truck so you could have had him bouncing off the pavement?

Here is my Gunner, 14 years old and still ready to hunt rabbits at any time image.jpg

Heck of an alarm clock ya got! ;)

Here's our Abby. She's a rescue that was taken away from her owner by the local animal control. She wouldn't come to me or my wife for almost 2 months. She stuck like glue to my son. My wife got her to cozy up to her before she would come to me. Then one day she hopped on the couch when the wife wasn't home(wife usually scooted her off the couch). I let her stay next to me and she let me pet her. I talked the Mrs. into letting her be a couch dog. She's our spoiled little girl now.

    Abby_Mitten.JPG

Yeah, She even gets to sleep on the bed too. She gets all kinds of love an special treatment. Usually sleeps between us unless its too warm in the house.

She's my back up alarm. I get 2 snooze's with the alarm. By #3 she's on my chest ready to dole out the kisses to get my can out of the rack.

Heck of thread here. That guy sure didn't deserve to have that dog and yes he deserved a good old fashioned a$$ whippin. That dog of his probably loves him with his whole heart and that's the sad part because he should be taking a bite out of his back side.

Here's our 12 year old Aussie that we lost to cancer last summer. He was like Dexter's Shepard, by my side everywhere, bar none the best dog I ever had the pleasure of spending time with. I could almost cry just talking about him still.

LP, I agree whole-downheartedly with you! The guy SS had, should have been leashed with a choke chain and dragged behind his own pick-up for a spell!

My wife and I are dog people (although my wife is a horse, cat, dog, goat, rabbit, etc....person), we generally have between five to seven pooches around (my arithmetic fades on the horses and cats - that's her thing). All couch potatoes. I lost my best friend, "Penny"(German Short-haired Pointer) , a few years ago. She'd come to us as an abused dog taken away from someone like SS's guy. Given time to trust us, she became a great addition to our family and a moderately fair bird dog, but an awesome house dog with the grand-kids. I was crushed when we had to put her down due to illness. Well wifey-poo decided I needed another dog, on top of the five we already had, so brought home a soon-to-be euthanized Si-Tzu puppy. Although I've always been a lover of the "sporting breeds" , this little girl has captured my heart. She's a great little dog. She's going on 3 yrs old and has decided she'll teach the "new" Beagle some manners. Both, the Si-Tzu and Beagle have come from "bad" homes.

Dogs are family. We had 2 Huskies over a 24 year stretch. After holding the second one while she went to sleep, I was NOT going to ever fall for a dog again. Wife felt the same. It's like losing the most trusted friend because they were. Never again, ever… that lasted 4 months. Now Giz is my co-pilot and has us laughing all the time. We've talked about finding a second pup… never…

Just spent the evening at calling hours for my daughter in laws grandpa. He had 2 year old Aussie female that is now a new member of of the kids family. Also found out she might be pregnant so a new little Aussie may be in my future. I am very mixed but if I could get one even somewhat as good as my Rudy I'd be on to something.

Go for, but even better, go for two of them. The dog will be double work, but double enjoyment. They also keep each other company and will exercise each other when you are busy. When someone comes in our yard, the dogs send out an alarm that makes strangers think twice. They don't know they going to be greeted with wet sloppy tongues.

We still have a Rat Terrier and a tortoise cat so one will be the limit if we get another at all.

Well, since we're all getting so mushy over our puppies, help me out with this one.....
I would like to get a friend for my Lab. She was about 5 when we got her, over 2 years ago. We wanted dogs, but we work too much, didn't think it was fair to have a pooch moping around until we got home. And then she came to us. She seems fine, and hasn't eaten a cat yet (3 of those), but ....
Thoughts? I like Blue Heelers. Wife has thought of a weiner dog-(That would be funny to watch go pee in the winter). Any pups out there that are all bladder, can hold their water for 10 hours? Or should I look for another Lab?
Or a small pig? I'm actually not kidding about that, it's been discussed. and you can eat it. o_O

We have a black lab and a beagle, beagle is 14 and lab is 3. They get along great and are both good with our kids. I like the lab (Scooby) but the old beagle stole my heart the day my Husband brought him home. I dread the day he gets too old to go anymore...

Take your dog for a visit to a shelter and find a friend she gets along with. Make sure you get one that is tested and found to be cat tolerant. If you get another lab, and if under two years, it will chew everything it can get into its mouth. I have raised three full blooded labs and can tell you they love to chew dig etc. until they turn two, then they seems to mature.

savemoney, that is a great idea, one which I will follow. I have a wonderful shelter not too far from me, I'll approach them before I bring the "dawg" down for a meet-n-greet.
    Great idea, thanks. JB

'The Boom' here had it bad for a couple weeks before the youngest boy finally caught him.
Word has it that some real nice family in his neighborhood had Boomer for a couple days and he made a mistake on the floor so they threw him out  Took Eric almost 2 weeks to catch him as he was petrified of everything and everybody..
So out he came to stay with us ;) Took the little fart ALONG time to trust me but was pretty good with Mrs loon also took him a bit to get used to Emma and Buddy but we are now a big happy family

Sounds like your "nice family" that booted Boomer out might have been related to a slightly off family I got to meet. We had lost our 1st husky. Meesha always was running off, but we'd find her in a few hours. This one time, she launched way out around a small lake back in the woods and we thought she was gone for good. 3 weeks. Our 2 small kids at the time were basket cases. They and mom copied at least 50 pictures of Meesha with all of the contact info, etc… and went all over 3 different towns putting these up in store windows. I was sure this was not going to end well. Once again, I was wrong. Got a call from this lady saying she'd seen the poster and wasn't sure, but maybe, maybe they had our husky. They lived way on the other side of that lake, 4-5 miles. When I got to this lady's house, couldn't believe it. There was Meesha hanging out on their deck. She was a little sheepish but came right to me when I called her. The lady said they'd lost their husky and thought Meesha was their dog when she showed up 3 weeks before covered in mud. How do you not know your own dog? Uh huh. (The collar might have been a clue…) Said Meesha slept on one of her kid's beds the whole time, and, of course that kid was bawlin while we talked. Perfect. At least Meesha was treated OK while "visiting". Said thanks. Drove straight from there to a small fry league baseball game my son was in. Pretty nice watching my family come un-glued when I walked up the bank with ole Meesh… :)
