Picked up a load of wood from the wonderful wood yard in Bogart today and there was this wood that I've never seen before. It's certainly a hard wood but no idea what kind. The bark is kind of papery but the wood is incredibly hard to split. Not a great picture but I tried lol
Including a picture of my haul too. [IMG][IMG]

Little bit of bark left looks somewhat like Beech.

Judging by the way how you describe it the bark looks beech but the wood itself being hard to split hints at elm.

I'm going sycamore as well. Definitely a pain to split.

Sycamore, without a doubt. I won't take it anymore due to the splitting difficulties.

To me that looks a lot like a eucalyptus (blue gum or sugar gum)

It might have been an imported Aussie ornamental yard tree.

Sycamore. It can be split when it's really dry. Smells like vanilla when you burn it. If that's any incentive.

Sycamore! yes it is difficult to split and be aware of the splinters.

Sycamore. It's a challenge to split, but dries fairly quickly. Great wood when dry to light your fires or get some heat going quickly in the morning.

Sycamore is the reason I bought a wood splitter after attempting to hand split a big one that came down after a storm.
