This guys was actually a bus driver we met in Alaska on a tour in Haines just a week after Julie heard the story on Fox News...Whats the odds...
My goodness! I wish I could bring you a trailer load for fuel and a place to sleep. It amazes me the regional differences in the cost of firewood. $300-$350 will take the whole cord home delivered within 10 miles from a local tree trimmer. It's all hard wood but not seasoned. I'd be a serious roadside hoarder if I were out near you MikeyB !
Sis n BIL watched the kids for us last night while we went out...I had a small fire in the stove earlier in the day that was out by the time they got there...house was 73*. When we got home the BIL had the windows open...OK no big deal, except the one window didn't have a screen in it...and the box elder / stink bugs have been horrendous lately! Fortunately, I haven't yet seen any new squatters this morning...
Nice looking stacks you have there, J Dirt. Keep collecting. You never know when you won't be able to. Leave the newer stuff as long as you can, and unsplit for a while. It won't go anywheres. I like the idea of checking with your local churches,and/or senior centers to see if anyone is in need. Any good deed will come back to you times three, at least. Karma is a wonderful thing. Hoard on!!
Great post amateur cutter and very well stated. J. Dirt it is great to be in the position you are in and many will envy you. I have to fully agree with other's thoughts about finding needy folks and lending a helping hand. That always gives you a great feeling and yes, many times other blessings come back to you but I never count on that. Sometimes people will take advantage; just be aware and don't let that happen twice with the same folks. And, of course, you can always try to sell a little now and then. If you do, I recommend always giving more than you advertise. If a cord, give a few bundles over a cord along with some good kindling for the fires. People like that and will respect you more.
Basically I don’t want to cut and or process more than I can use so I’m open to suggestions to continue hoarding!
I will trade a grayling fishing trip for wood cutting. The river is frozen and not safe for ice fishing. We will have to figure a good time. By the holidays the river should be frozen.
