    The payoff in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ has been enormous over the years.

    Once we get in the groove things are pretty easy.

    Back when we had the commercial dump truck things were a snap.

    A shell run was a simple 2-3 hour job and that was that.

    Now that we are retired and no longer have the big rig it has been an interesting time for sure.

    The twists and turns that the Nut crops have taken, and the market (sales) as well have really added complexity to our end as well.

    Used to be that shells were available starting in November and then through early March, but the past few years have been crazy.

    Year before last the bulk of the crop was sold to China in the shell, and that cut the availability back to the end of December.

    Last year was a good one with availability up through early March.

    Keeps us on our toes it does.

    The rewards are nice though on the long cold winter nights.

    Sort of a work in progress...

    The older I get the more inventive I have to be to keep things manageable.

    There has been some grand ideas put forth over the past couple years, but the cost of implementing them is too great to reap any real benefit, especially $$$$


    And so it goes..

    fall check list is nearly complete. firewood done for 2020 and 2021, generator started and full, 18 gallons of gas on hand, 600 gallons of oil, snow blower started and full, RV winterized, mice fed...

    still need to put deck furniture away, anti-seize oil tank fills, move landscape tractor to the shop, and get 3 tons of pellets (I think I know a local dealer!) oh, and leaves / driveway markers of course.

    Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC I got the same vaccine. I'm not interested in getting sick with this year's flu or taking a risk of infecting someone else. No guarantees, but better chance of not getting it, or not getting it as bad.
