I guess I always figured some kind of cord might go through the hole in a splitting wedge. I just suddenly got to thinking about it again, and decided to ask. Is it for a lanyard, or am I supposed to put it on my keyring?
That reminds me of an episode of The A-Team where BA was actually going to board a plane willingly, but then couldn’t get past the metal detectors because he refused to take off his chains.
I wonder if it was part of the molding process? Or maybe it distributes the weight better when striking?
I say definitely for a key ring! That would be bad azz everyone would know that your a lumberjack! All jokes aside I have no clue. The only thing that I think that it could be uses for would be to hang the up on a nail in your garage or work shop so it doesn't get misplaced?
None of my wedges have that hole. I have a mix of half a dozen or so, some old hand me downs, some newer. They have the indent that leads up to where the hole is, but no hole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve only seen two with the hole. The one pictured was bought a few years back, the other was my grandfather’s.
In 35+ yrs I've never seen one with a hole like that,I imagine it would weaken & could eventually fall apart.
I have two from Harbor Freight, but I have never seen that one in the store. I have the one on the left. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guessing that it is so you, as already mentioned, can hang it up, or run a rope through it, with others, to carry easily.
Yeah, but I really want that hole to have a more exciting purpose. Maybe it’s a speed hole, it makes your wedge go 10% faster.
It has 2 uses! Lubrication hole - Frequent lubrication with oil or insert a piece of candle wax for less frequent lubrication. Sighting hole - You look through the hole to find the perfect spot to place your wedge on the round.
Three: it is also an 'air relief' hole for when using the wedge in high winds; it allows enough air through so the wind does not knock it over before the first solid hit. Brian
