I was surprised when coming in from hunting last night to see the wife had started a fire. Got hot in here quickly. A bit of a problem sleeping too but I didn't want to turn the air conditioning on.

Feeling brisk this morning, -2 C feels like -8 C with the wind. Or 28 feels like 17. That's a bit cool for this time of year normally but the forecast says it will be back to normal in a day or two.

We had 42 this morning so the wife wanted a fire which we had over coffee. I ran a small fire tonight so we won't need one until tomorrow if we want.

We still have just under six face cord left for this non shoulder season.

Still no stove burning here yet, tomorrow to be 78 and sunny, 60 out right now and 74 inside with the windows open. Got the patio stash finished tonight and still want to drop the cat out of the stove. Monday night shows 37 but then right back to the 60's & 70's

Its -3c/26f here right now. I just came in from outside. I was sharpening the chainsaw, filling the gas, greasing the bar sprocket etc, etc and loading the truck full of gear for a trip into the bush with a friend tomorrow morning. Were hoping to drop some ready to burn trees and fill both trucks. It felt more like -6 than -3 but we feel it more in the fall than the early spring eh? The grass was crunchy and there were slick patches of ice in the driveway. Ice droplets frozen everywhere I looked.. It was kind of nice puttering in the cold. The stove has been going since last night. Im sitting in front of it now, in an hour or so Ill load it to the gills with larch for an over night burn. We had snow showers on and off through the day with highs of about 2c. We arent supposed to get above 4c/39 tomorrow in the valley bottoms so it should be nice for cutting.

What kind of wood is that, finding ready to burn standing trees can be hard to do.

Sitting at -5 C (23 F) this morning.:DThat's a bit below normal for this time of year though, and it should stay slightly above freezing at night for the next couple weeks. Poplar in the reactor doing its thing.

Standing dead spruce, doug fir, lodgepole pine and larch (tamarack) can be found standing dead with mc under 20% and sometimes quiet a bit below that. Ive posted a number of threads showing stump to stove results. Kinda lucky I guess. I was out today and found some dry stuff and some stuff that wasnt dry enough. The key is to find something that has been standing dead long enough to avoid the chainsaw from someone who jumps the gun. I think we have enough forest around here to be able to pull that off for the keen wood scroungers. I also will drop some dead stuff that will ring in at around 24% but since I do the majority of my cutting in the spring and early summer it is usually pretty good come burning season.

We were up a bit in elevation and think it stayed around -2c with strong wind gusts in between dead calm. I was still sweating under my hard hat!

A nice bright and sunny morning here, temp is +1 C (33 F). Small poplar fire going. It must be great for duck/geese hunting this morning by the sound of things.

It dropped down to 32°F last night, currently 37°F. Living on the north side of a mountain close to a creek makes it colder than expected.

We had 62 this morning with a cold front coming in later today with some strong wind gusts, it will warm up again around Tuesday and stay warm the rest of the week.

Temps are going drop to 44°F tonight. I have a small fire with red maple and a big hunk of poplar just because.

Almost broke down and lit a fire today. High of 50, suppose to drop down to mid 30's by morning. I have my little gas stove in the basement keeping the chill off for now until colder weather.
