The days are getting shorter, darker and colder. Those of us who are country dwellers live by a annual ritual
at this time of year.................that being the influx of little furry creatures seeking to move indoors for the winter season. Much like their human counterparts who head south for the warmth.

Lately, the neighborhood cats seem to have not held up their part of the bargain re: critter control numbers, and so, the trap line has now been initiated. So yesterday I set out 6 traps, generously manufactured and provided by the "Victor" company. A generous glob of Skippy applied to each trigger, and strategically placed in the garage and storage areas of the Ponderosa. Set out this morning to "run the trap line", only to discover that the 2 in the garage were untouched (a positive sign), but the other 4 were licked spotlessly clean and not triggered. I have always been a devoted "Victor's" customer with generally awesome luck, but alas we are obviously dealing with some slick critters this year. Sssoooooo..............we have upped the "anti" and invoked the upgraded version of "to catch a meese". We will see how this goes............................

Fall to me means bullet casting, except it's been too warm and now, rainy.

rottiman we have good results by wedging a black sunflower seed into the trigger. Works good for mice and chipmunks. But if you use for chipmunks, you must stake the traps down. Also, rat traps work best for chipmunks.

Did you get a new Lab??? I am just about ready to start looking for a new pup. I looked at a couple of female Rotts, not sure I can do that again. I am think Shepard or Lab here.
If I can find a pic of the bucket trap I built I will post it here. I do not have it anymore and have not seemed to need i the last few years.

We rehomed this little lady last December. She is a Blk Lab/Rott cross and a real sweetheart. Will be 5 soon and way too smart for her own good. Learns quickly and has a fantastic nose. Do yourself a favor and get one sooner than later. I waited 8 months and that was a HUGE mistake.

I set our bucket trap up at the cottage after Labour Day weekend and caught one shortly after that. We had a second one in the bucket this past Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Plumbers Antifreeze works great for not freezing in the winter like water and there is never any stink from mice that have been there awhile.

I have one of these minnow traps laying on the ground behind the wood shed. The mice crawl in but can’t get out. Then another crawls in to see what his buddy is up to.

I like bucket #2 as it gives the false sense of access with the bottle taper.
My best bucket trap used a medium-large can from collard greens

I could imagine two bottles end-end would entice the problem solvers to the wheel of death

I use two water bottles with bottoms cut off and one slide into the other. The rod (literally a piece of fiberglass fishing rod) runs through the mouths of the bottles at opposite ends.
