It was too warm to light a fire but I did anyway. I finished adding double wall interior pipe and vacuumed the upper part of the stove, I got all excited and lit a small fire, with the windows open and the fan on.

Been an unseasonable start to fall in the NE for sure. We have had a few nights in the 40's but thats it, most of the weather has been a good 10 degrees warmer.

I had a FB memory pop up on the 10th, last year on that day was my first burn. We aren't even close right now...and thats fine, no cord wood going up the chimney
    just yet.

Nothing here yet. We dropped into the upper 40's a couple times but it warmed up pretty quick. Looks like 60's for the next few days and then back up to 80° by Sunday. I don't anticipate a fire for at least a week. Beyond that, who knows.

Have had windows open all day and night for quite a few days and nights.

I did burn some pine in the pit to have a nice hot fire to burn some black knot blighted plum branches . And some smallish oak branches that came down in the last wind storm that was at one time Nate.

Cottage last night. Started out with a temp of 48 inside and warmed that place up in no time with a bit of ash and oak.

Bedtime and 80 degrees; 99 asks "aren't you going to put any wood in the stove?" :headbang:

    "NOPE!"

Been a few nights I could have had a fire but have been working 70-80 hours/week and not feeling like tending a fire.
Took me a month 10 minutes here and there to get 1 1/2 cords of my shoulder stove wood moved to the house. My furnace wood was moved and ready over a year ago.
About 1 more face cord will fit in the furnace room and I'm done and ready to go.

Looking at the forecast it may be Monday for me as I've used the blanket and sweatshirt additions up to this point. This will call for the formal lighting ceremony and the accompanying sacrifice of perhaps a bottle of wine...

So 65% of us have had at least one fire, but I’m wondering when do we start humidifying?

I only humidify when stove is running.. Ideal Steel is a Woodstove with 3 cook plates on top. the kettle and hot water pot sits on stove.. so when stove is hot it automatically humdifys.. I am not smart so I like old school tech:yes:

Yeah, I keep a cast iron dragon humidifier on my cast iron smoke dragon and I usually fill it daily or everytime I light the stove.
I was asking if everyone else feels like it’s not necessary to humidify during occasional October fires.

I just propped them up there for the picture, to show the diameter of wood I burned.

Yup, started having small morning fires about a month ago. Stove has been going steady for the past 3 days. Yesterday was my official first long johns day of the season. Freeze up is a bit late this year. Last year freeze up was on the 14th of Oct. Nothin to stress about. I've seen it not freeze up here until Thanksgiving and I've seen freeze up in late September.
Burning silver poplar and cottonwood . Now that I have the Timber Champ splitter I will get serious about getting the winters wood in the shed.

Those "long handles" actually come off during the summer, huh?

There's guys around here that wear them year around. Another guy wears nothing but wool shirt and pants all year!
