Well did some work this morning and ended up just dropping a few limbs off each tree. The bigger one was HARD! Cut two limbs of it and then had to climb the little one, without any tools to get a rope in to rig out the one limb I was taking out in order to keep from wiping out the neighbors awnings. As for the little tree it was soft wood and somewhat stinky. Had to quite after I put it on the ground and bucked it up because of the heat I was heading for the floor quick
Maybe time to head back north? It's cooler up here but not as cool as it should be for sure. Looks like we might get 2 or 3 days of relief but then back into the 70's again. Is this really October?
The rains quit so I went outside to do some work. The humidity must be 100%; it is horrible. I couldn't do anything. J. Dirt don't push too hard in that heat and humidity; keep hydrated.
The farthest I've driven for a wood job/scrounge was a little over 200 miles. Albeit, I was heading there for a visit also, but did do some cutting of shagbark hickory and then hauled some back home with me. Now that raises another question. How much would a pickup truck load of hickory go for dollar wise? I normally spend $80 in fuel for the truck when I travel that far. The mileage did not vary with the load of hickory on the return trip; so I figure that its like spending $80 for a load of hickory....
Hard to put a price on that when its someone you're visiting though right? Still sounds like a trip that was worth it, primo firewood and dropping by.
Around here, a PU load of maple will run anywhere form 65 to 80 ish. depending on how it is loaded. So, since I'm heading there anyway, why not pick up a load of hickory? The $80 for gas would normally only be $30 if I took the tired old corrolla which still turns out 38mpg; its like getting a load of hickory for $50, no? And If I don't like the hickory (yeah, right!) I can always give it to bogydave !!! He'll take it!
My wife and I headed to Hyannis for a week. Just over 80miles, one way. When I get there lo and behold, there's a few(5) small piles of recently cut wood. I take a closer look and it looks like good hardwood. I sought out the maintenance guy, who we've known for many years and asked if I could help him clean it up. He told me to take what I wanted. So, I took it all! Apple, of some sort. My "Mildwinter" shot That's 2 rounds deep, with a few longer branches. Inside out And, temporarily stacked back home. While I didn't go there with hoarding in mind, some things just seem to follow me around these days ~smile~ Some of the pieces will be put aside for use in the smoker. Hoard on!
I've traveled close to 600 miles from mi to West Virginia to help a brother in hordering lay some trees on the ground. Iirc it was a little warm that weekend wasn't it Eric VW ? I also traveled close to 500 miles from MI to Near Buffalo New York to help another FHC Brother out. I think there was a hurricane that weekend wasn't there walt I know you remember that J. Dirt good on ya for helping out the Fam!
What is 5’7” in everyday speak? How tall are you (rhetorical question, as I know how tall you aren’t are)....?
Last weekend I was out in the backyard at my inlaws house in North Conway, and happen to notice a giant pile of oak in the neighbors back yard. Being a hoarder, the next thing I do is observe that they dont have a chimney on the house (mostly snowbirds in the area). Then the sadness set in that I cant take any of it.
