You ain't with me then, bud! Even a normal winter limits what I want to do outside....I don't care to cross-country or snowshoe. I predicted the "last, coldest day" about a week ago when it got down to 10 or so; Now we're looking at single digits again tonight. It's got to be the last, coldest day this time....right??!
Well Todd, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. High 20's forecast finally for the end of the week. It gets old when I woke up to -20 degrees without a windchill.
-7 this morning, set a new record for March in my area.I do think this winter here has been the coldest since the early or late '70's.19 right now, high for the day.25-30 next few days, may see 50 next Monday but I don't believe that Around 46 inches of snow so far, normal for the season - mid November to early April is around 32 or so.No big amounts for each storm - 1" to 3-4" inches has been the norm.Biggest single amount was just over 8 inches last December.Long stretches of well below freezing temps, when the daytime high is below 15 for 2 weeks or more, when it finally sees 30,people are running around outside in light jackets. Largest snow amount I really remember was 2009-10,72 inches that season,3rd highest on record. Not a lot of cold other than the usual handful in mid -late January & then again about a month later.
Luckily the Lowes near me had some rock salt. But the rest of the winter gear is long gone. Did see some dandy looking deck gear, But so much snow out I can't even think of that for another 2 months if were lucky! Too dnng cold out to sit on the dam deck anyway!!
There are country stores around here that you find most anything, anytime of the year. Just ask, they will go out back and find it for you. Some of our deepest snows have come here in March. I don't think much about them because I know they are going to melt. The sun is high, and the days are longer. No Vortex is going to stop that. I am looking at my seed catalogs. Who knows, might be something new I'll be interested in trying.
March is very unpredictible to say the least but below zero is odd. Wife's b-day is the 18th and we were just talking about how different the weather can be. 2 years ago we took a little get away and by mid day we had to shed clothes it was up to 65.
I also heard that this may cut down on the emerald ash borer problem? Hopefully so, as much as I like free wood, I am not a fan of invasive species. Disgusted with what the Dutch Elm did to all those nice trees.
Oh, hey! Look at that, the weather report shows a high in the upper 20s with 3-6" of snow on March 12th.
Looks like we may be finally getting out of it with highs in the 40's early next week, time to break out the spring wood in the garage (I hope).
Call me crazy, but I'm gonna be sad when I'm no longer burning 24-7. Yes the Progress is that much fun to operate, I'm going to miss even this winter! Ok I'm ready to get flamed.
I'm with you....I've said a few times already. I've really enjoyed this winter and love this new stove.
I'll tell you what, I'll buy three Progress stoves if you promise to come over and load them all winter.
That would be almost as good as my MIL has it....you just have to talk him into bringing the wood, too.
