Maybe thats what is called a pocket splitter? I had thought about one for the basement in whittling down that larger chunks but talked myself out of it in no time.
Actually, they are good little splitters. There is a member on here that keeps one by his stove for making kindling because since they are electric, no toxic fumes. I have split several types of wood. I will admit that piece of willow oak took some work but it is tough wood. Other oaks have popped right open. I have a piece of chestnut oak that I started to split but the rains drove me back inside. The humidity is still horrible down here. Autumn is suppose to be a drier time of the year but so far it is really humid here.
No one said that there was anything wrong with the splitter. Just poking fun at it due to its cute appearance and small size. Kinda like the ribbing that goes on with Husky vs sthil; Chevy vs Ford vs. Dodge....etc etc Can't believe I had to explain it.... OK. Everybody form a circle, join hands and start singing KUMBAYA!
yooperdave This was what I was replying to. Think about it, it is snowing, cold, windy and you have a split that needs to be split again. Just push a button and away you go , all in the comfort of your warm house.
Yes, they are small. Since the ram pulls a block against the wood, they can be compact. Traditional splitters push directly with the end of the ram so need a long beam for the wood to be split. I am thinking there is probably a lost of force in the way the splitters are made but they don't take up much room for storage. I don't know, I am not a mechanical engineer; I only had a few classes in mechanical stuff.
