The last week or so, and forecasted next 10 days, seem to be unusual. Just now dipping into the high 30s at night, but the days are sunny and up to 70 deg. Now don't get me wrong, I am really diggin' the exceptional fall weather for the PacNW as it sure beats rain, but it makes for weird burning cycles. Can't light up too early in the late afternoon/eve as we would get cooked out, but need to light up to take the edge off the chill at night and in the morning.

So I've been lighting a small fire after 9pm to get a bed of coals going for the overnight burn. Load up the stove about 60% full w/some shoulder wood (soft maple and uglies) and damper down. Last night I got a solid 8hrs from 10pm load up to good bed of coals that I could relight with around 6am. Hate to waste the coals in the morning, but with daytime temps in the high 60s into 70s makes no sense to burn during the day. Looks like this will be going on for at least another week. :emb:

That system is here as of yesterday, going to drop into the 30's evenings for the next few days. Only about 50's daytime

Yah, after burning 24/7 for the past several flooded out weeks, I woke up two nights ago in a sweat. It was 72 at 3am. I opened the sunroom doors and cooled the house down. Yesterday afternoon and this morning I let the fire go out. Hard to start a fire last night when it was 52 degrees, no draft.

The Northeast has been unusually warm. I'm in north central Mass just below the NH/VT border and I haven't gotten a real hard frost yet. We did pick the last of our green tomatoes and bring those in, but it really hasn't been as cold as normal for this time of year, and it is also warming to the high 60s and low 70s during the daylight hours.

But it will turn that bitter raw cold very shortly. It always does and when the clocks get turned back on November 3rd it will be all over but the crying. ...and hopefully there will be joy in Mudville and another World Championship for the Red Sox. (but.. that's getting ahead of ourselves. )

It's getting chilly here blue we have been using the stove for a while now. It's a good feeling and far better than TV

Yep, nutty weather here in the central Atlantic states as well. Has been unusually mild all day, just a tad chilly at night. I've been building overnight fires for the past week almost every evening, except for last evening....just too warm in the house.

Came home to a chilly house this afternoon so I stared up a fire with some red maple, will load it up for the overnight later this evening....

I have had about a dozen fires. Our plants haven't been frosted out yet. I don't remember last when we went so far into this month without a killing frost. Sometimes these fires are to take the chill off, or the dampness out, or mostly because the wife thinks she might be cold. Doesn't really matter, in all those cases, having a fire going brings comfort. No burning by the calendar in this house.:fire: Yippie, the smiles are back up! Thanks

Haven't had a fire, yet. Which I am just a-okay with. This is the deepest into the shoulder season I have gone without burning.

Looks like my first fire will probably be Monday.

Last year I probably burned through two cord of wood by November 1st playing with the new stoves and setup that I had. This is the first year in the last six winters where I haven't installed a liner, bought a stove, installed a stove, or moved a stove to a different chimney.

Longer forecast says we'll be seeing the 20's next week.

I had no fire today. Office will be cold when I get there at 7:30 a.m. I'll have a fire to get the day started and let it die off. Should bring it up to low 70s and then cool off throughout the day, which I'm fine with.

We've had 1 fire so far. That will change this weekend with lows in the 30s

Yes, one can hope. Although it does not help if the Sox give away games like they did last night walking in runs and making errors.

39 last night, supposed to be 65 here today. Clear and sunny today. :axe::tree::MM:

I like all the animated smileys on this site. I don't remember seeing those before on the old site. Nice addition
