White Oak is not softer or lighter than Red...I can't quite put my finger on what you have there...maybe some kind of Maple?
Was the Red Oak you cut live, and this one dead? That could account for the weight difference.

I think the wood pictured is red maple which would be lighter and cut easier than red oak

No photos but got the EZ up before the rain and made some room under the barn over hang and split a bunch of maple in the rain yesterday. Got two little loads stacked and a pile ready for the stacks.

Used the saw buck for the first time to trim some rounds. Would have been ideal if I cut to 18" but I have to have sub 17" for my stove. Put a 2x4 in the bottom which worked decent.

Was nice to run the saw in that maple instead of red oak for a change. Nice big chips.

It's been awhile since I've posted an update but it's just been slitting and stacking over and over. I'm ready to be done with wood for awhile haha - still have prolly another 2 cord to go. Here's a photo from splitting this weekend into the truck to move it to the stacks

And along the way I picked up a $20 can't from Craigslist. I always wanted one and was patient to find a cheaper one. [IMG]

To cant or not to cant
    That is the question
    To recant leaves me wanting
    To decant is divine
If only I could say yes I can
Then a cant would surely be mine

The older you get, the more you appreciate tools like the cant hook!

Been shifting priorities around with hunting season and tires and shocks on the truck but got a good session in yesterday doing 2 pickup loads split and stacked. Man I love oak!

Thanks to the leftovers from Hurricane Nate, we lost power so it was a good opportunity to do a practice run with the generator - man that thing is sweet! It came with the house and I'm happy it did. With a deer freshly in the freezer I didn't want risk things warming up (outside temps in 70s).

It's a 20HP Honda motor with 2@20 amp, 1@30 amp and 1@50 amp hookups. Big cable and plug in the garage, fire up the generator and throw the big 3 position switch in the basement.

Also in the remaining daylight I trimmed up some of the maple rounds I have that are too long. Have a good pile to run through the splitter soon.

Sounds nice. They also make automatic transfer switches so you don't have to do any manual transfer.

Yeah, I've heard of those. My generator is one of those beasts on wheels to cart around so it stays in the garage until it's needed.

An ATS is only an option with permanently installed standby gens.

Sounds like life is good for you CT!

Ok back at the wood pile... built this rack for the deck last Saturday out of pressure treated the previous homeowner left behind plus a couple
    new pieces.

Today’s task is to fill it. I can’t wait to burn through the previous owners woodpile. Trimming splits to length gets real old, real fast.

Looks like it would be light enough to move off the deck in the summer. Or will it stay? Maybe you could put cushions on it in the summer time.
