So, I tried this when I went to Idaho Springs. I did cable him, so he can't go more than 9' from the eyebolt anchor. 20-25 minutes I might have been gone.
2 square feet of carpet and padding, 2 picture hangers..... toast.
I don't physically punish animals, never have- never will, but boooyyy......I was tempted to give him a good swat! But I can tell from the times I have given him a scolding, he's been beat before. He's young but I think he's seen his share of rough times, need to see if I can get him to straighten up.
He'll get better, just take some work. 80% good dawg, 20% rascal according to my better half.

Have you tried kenneling? I know some people don't like it, and to be honest I never had to do it since I had a dog pen that they went into when we were gone (except really bad weather). Also depends on how long nobody is in the house, because leaving them in a kennel for 10 hours is completely different than kenneling for only a couple hours.

Bk, it's kennel aka crate time. Don't put anything in it. No toys. No blankets. No pads. Those Will be chewed up and can be choking hazards while you aren't even there to save him from choking.

Bait him in with treats and good boys. You gotta make it fun. I've climbed in there before, just to show em it's ok lol.

Never use the crate as punishment. Only when you leave. He will soon think of it as his house in the house, and have no problems with it.I

Does he have chew toys? Get him a deer antler, and a kong. If he's big, get the black kongs as they are tougher than the red ones. Smear peanut butter inside of it as a special treat, or when you need him outta your hair.

Beetle-Kill , I bought a large black wire kennel by MidWest from Amazon for like $40, it was quality too, if you do the kennel. I also heard that once a dog becomes accustomed to kennels it ends up being a calm safe space for them, no doubt tons on info on the internet. Are you all snowed in?

I'll check that out, thanks. I'm checking out that "dog whisperer" guy and his suggestions about separation anxiety. Worst case- duct tape. ;)
No snow to speak of, It went north and east for the most part. Only 4" on the ground, gone tomorrow.

She is a mix BL/Rotti and way too smart for her own good. She is currently training for scent detection work (dog sports) and tracking/article searching. She has a He%% of a good nose and a apparent natural aptitude and just loves the work.
