I occasionally use a torch to light up some kindling for a fire, but mostly I use fire starters but you still have to light those somehow, matches, not even.
So what I use is butane Grill lighters, well these are pain in the azz with their safety features, some work for a while but quit when they still have fuel, some work sometimes but not other times. So I got is this BernzOmatic basic torch head with a smaller flame than my other torch heads, electric start and that's what I will be using from now on, (I laid it down to get a good pic but I chose this cylinder because it will stand on its own) the 16 oz cylinder will last a very long time.
    No more flicking my Bic
Butane Grill lighters, Hit the Road Jack and don't you come back no moo:D

Safety features on the lighters, eh? Those can be disabled.

It's true but some can and some can't unless you want to spend a bunch of time screwing around with them, even if you disable the safety feature doesn't mean they're going to work next time you pull the trigger, my other electric start torch heads don't fail, they just work like they are supposed to

What do you do with these butane lighters? throw them away:hair:
The fact that I'm not a young chicken anymore, this little $14 torch head will probably last me the rest of my life:BrianK:

I've bought a set of lighters from costco, some came with the torch lighters (they work great to light outside since it gets windy). I would accidentally leave them outside but no rain. They wouldn't work the next day and I would see fuel leaving the wand point so I knew that part was working but the piezo part stopped! I would even use another lighter to light the broken one but even thats a strech.

Mine gets used year round too! Add to that lighting fireworks, burnishing wood projects, burning ticks that get picked off the dog, kids and myself after a day in the woods, spiders and other bugs that are where they don't belong, etc

Those butane lighters, oh the frustrations!! We have a shelf in the wood shed closest to the OWB. A peanut butter jar with matches in it, and butane lighters hanging from nails on the shelf. It is a crap shoot if they will light or not. And like others have said, you can see fuel in it. So, knowing I leave my lighters in an unheated shed, will this Benzomatic leak down like the old CO2 pellet guns after a short while (especially knowing I am leaving it out in the cold shed???)??

I have never had any leak issues however like any lighter they don't work as well when they are left out in the cold

Might want to try a zippo. There are some fairly expensive " all weather" lighters out there but I have no experience with them.

I use a propane torch too. It lights my firepit, and my stoves. Its getting up there in age now, but still works. Though, I need to unscrew the bottle after every use now. Last bottle I used once and put away, only to come back to an empty bottle

That's the one problem. The 16 oz lpg container holds enough propane to flatten your house if it leaked and then ignited.

I use the more powerful benzomatic finger button ignition head on a Coleman 16 bottle too. I learned to refill those bottles for like 30 cents too!

The only problem with Zippos is they are not sealed and will need to be re-filled.

Personally I don't see a problem with that. Less crap going in the landfill

    Good point!
I used to carry one on me, but I don't smoke, so I rarely used it. When the occasional use came up, it would be out of fluid... again.... :(
