Last night I did this, girlfriend and I dragged the dang thing out and put a fire in. Definitely got low even with the air on high and I would test repetitively by shutting the door. I also really dry lumber cut offs with the door open slightly. I would guess this is normal in the first startinging fires? Smell was minimal, I can describe it like it was a dryer-like smell. Still a cool feeling.

I think the newer paints don't off-gas as bad. I debated doing it outside then decided against it. When fired in the house, the odor was not enough to bother me and I just had the window beside the stove wide open.

Did you have a piece of stove pipe on it?

    Nice fire :)
    Short lived though :(
    Dry wood burns good .

Glad you are getting it prepped , might be needed more in a month or so.

You would get a little bit better draft if you had 3 or 4 foot piece of stove pipe on there, in the Smoke would be up higher in the air.
Doesn't really matter though for what you were doing

Really I was looking to getting it going and break it in. Looked fine so far. I could understand why it didn't flare well with the door closed then thought about the whole new fire in a new stove deal.

It was perfect to watch. I couldn't really wait because I really have my sights set on this thing despite it being such a large stove... I may cook myself out. Seriously.

You will be fine, you can build a smaller fire and a bigger stove if you need to, but you can't build a bigger fire in a smaller stove.
My stove is 2.4, My house is 1200 square feet in the dead of winter, I close two bedrooms, so then I'm at about 980 square feet,
Some heat still filters in those rooms though I just shut the doors and there's no insulation in the interior walls.
It will take some time to get used to it and everything and you'll be just fine.
Have a couple small fires then fill your stove quarter full a few times, pack it tight, then fill it half way a few times you get used to all that then you can pack her up full

I think Im good on that too. Most likely the full stove will come when I am likely home all day and I watch the dang thing. Gonna go get some stove pipe in a bit.

Well shoot, I didn't think about that are the installers supplying all the materials pipe in chimney.
Oh yeah you have to be there when you're learning the stove.
If you going to buy some stove pipe, just buy a cheap piece of snap-lock single-wall

Congrats!! You two are cute, trying out the new toy before install :) Lookie Lookie at that brand new clean firebrick how fun!

I've never had a new stove til recently, both a wood stove and pellet stove in 2014, neither of them bothered us. The Stove Brite we used several times over the years though, ya, we had to ventilate.

x2 on a big stove/small fire that HDRock said (we've BTSTDI), and, I'd rather open a window than bundle up in my home :)

I still vividly remember the first fire in my Napoleon 1900P, back when I gutted and remodeled the house in 2007/2008. It was quite exciting, it was in the dead of winter that year, and we had just finished installing the kitchen cabinets and hardwood floor. The stove was easy to get going, and within an hour the house was toasty and cozy......
We were still in the midst of totally remodeling the house and staying with my parents down the lane, but I slept by the stove that night by myself to see how it acted/handled/burned. Its been a great heater.

Yea, your area not know for many freezing temp° days .
But you'll learn to regulate the heat output as you burn.
Can always use windows to let in some fresh outside air :)

Have you had many "No burn" Days there the past few years?
I did see some warnings a few year ago, an inversion caused poor air quality.

Yeah I just bought some galvanized stuff... it'll do. It didnt clip together real well so I just did what I could by taping the seam with foil tape. Either way Im just gonna wing it tonight. See how well that works. Most likely for the first couple weeks or so just burn little burns like I did last night for mornings and little longer in the evenings. We're still having good weather. It actually doesn't get that cold until the wee hours of the morning. Around 37 at 5 AM yesterday.... just to give you an idea.

dont use that galvanized stuff, especially in the house. It puts poisonous gas into the air......

    use the black pipe.....

I have only been living here for almost two years come December. I do remember stale air days so I'll do what I can to not burn then. Happened I believe in January here...? We had a cold snap not last january but year before and it was cold but that air was stale. We'll see how this year pans out, we're temperate but I just wanna keep this bill down to a minimum.
