Wonder why? Their pellets have always been a good seller in my area. CT pellet was even selling them, And sold out pretty quickly IIRC. Maybe they get more $$ over sea's?

Chit, I dumped one in last night before bed and 2 more before I went off to work this morning. Prolly like a 2 1/2 bag day!

Didn't get much solar yesterday, Sure hope we get some today. Helps offset the usage and are like free pellets to me!

I've been interested in the whole pellets world since my BIL got one. We had a company about 6 miles away that made pellets and employed about 30 people. Lately, we've seen a company advertising on TV that delivers pellets by pumper trucks. With all of the folks bailing bags into their SUV backseats, etc, I can see why delivery would be popular for some. Just like oil being delivered by truck instead of going down to the store to fill 6 gallon tanks. In a state like Maine, with lots of wood, it's really nice to see a job creator here. We have way too many young folks leaving to find work as so many wood related (pulp n paper) companies struggle.

When someone invents a rig that can make good pellets from wood I cut on my own land… sign me up. Until then, I really like the firewood process too much… even with all the dirt/dust/sweat/aches/injuries/risks… etc… :tree: :axe: :fire: :campfire:

Problem is the extra $$ needed to process them(the cost of fuel) and equipment kills it. The equipment is out there though. Used to be a few vid's on youtube of Vermont wood pellets processing whole tree's. :)

I also remember a traveling mill that would make pellets from your fiber. They come to your farm and process what ever material(usually Timothy grass) you have.

Don't feel bad....you and and about 90% of all of NE are the same boat right about now...I'm not aware of any dealer that has over 100 tons in stock that isn't sold or has it committed for...not saying there isn't one, I'm just not aware of any. BT in CT might...maybe Scott at CT, but even Squier was totally sold out this weekend and think they might be the largest dealer by volume in NE...certainly in the top 3....product is very scarce right now right across the board....

They are the closet pellet mill to the Tar Sands in Alberta which like the oil/gas fields in ND use a bunch of pellets (spills, even down the hole in place of mud as a lubricate) and they simply pay more than anyone else... No need to haul product all the way across the country when you can sell it just a few miles away and don't need to bag it. It's just business. Same thing is happening with Rocky Mtn in CO

I think they both are getting low. Several brands at CT are listed unavailable. And it doesn't sound like BT has much either.

So thats whats happened to the Rockie's and why we haven't seen them in New England. Suck's they are using good brands of fuel that we liked.

There are several brands I'd rather see dumped on the ground or stuffed in a hole.

This winter has been one of the suckiest I can recall in a long time.
No pellets around my area either atm. Have 37 bags but prob
need another ton to get through the rest of this heating season.
Will be calling around today trying to hook up. 15 bags at a time
is a super pain in the azz. Had my boiler cleaned out yesterday
just in case I need to use some oil. Have about 200 gallons so
will burn some if need be.

Several mills supply the oil/gas fields....they bring in bulk and just dump it on an area when they want to do some clean up...bring in the bull dozers and spread....wait and then shovel up the topsoil and off to the land fill or where ever they take that stuff....pellets are a great little sponge of oil/water and such and its much cheaper and cleaner than some other methods....plus the oil industry will pay more than the heating market.....so they go where they get their best return....can't blame them for that...I know of one mill that over 80% of their production goes towards this with no end in site for demand. Not all mills do this of course, it depends where you are located, but if near something like this, there is a good chance they are selling their pellets for this purpose.

I'd just cry if I saw them getting thrown on the ground. Might have to run out and fill my pockets full before they started spreading.

Its a shame really to be wasting really good softwood pellets on spills. Why can't they get some cruddy stuff like ACP for dat! I can see horse's cause they have issues with some hardwoods. but I'm sure the oil could care less on what it gets sucked up with!

My dealer mentioned something about this but I didnt really get the complete drift of it...and it didnt make sense to me that an Oil Co would use up the pellets like this.

Now I know but I wish I didnt

The oil is for DHW and backup. But it is there and available if needed. With the 3+tons still in the stash it will have to get colder than the -13 it was this morning. The stove handled it fine at -22 burning those "MWP shoulder pellets". If you note I'm currently burning the 2010 Cubex.

Haven't burned a drop of oil yet this year been heating strictly with pellets
even on those couple nights that went -15. Normally I like to run the boiler toward the end of shoulder
season rather than go on off with the pellet stove and will do that - if shoulder season ever arrives.

You have to remember that hardwoods aren't really made west of the Mississippi and on the left side of the country they don't even know what a hardwood pellet is.......except maybe some flavored ones for the bbq.....

Stove handles the bulk. But when I get home at 6ish and its cold cause the stove is turned down for the day, the furnace helps boost the temp quickly in this cold snap. Then the stove is on its own. When its 25-30 and above during daytime I dont need to use it all.

Regarding the MWP Shoulder pellets, in my setup I want all the octane I can get. I threw in some laCrete on Saturday. My dealer left me 2 bags last spring to try out and I was blown away by the heat. Plus that resulted in turning the stove way down cause ut was too warm upstairs. Good stuff.
