Just swung by Don2222's shop to pick up a high output blower, a bushing for my auger, and a new control panel cover. I've chatted with Don for years and never had the opportunity to meet. It was a pleasure! I got to see his shop and all the stoves he is either working on or refurbishing. Don's got quite to stock of spare parts too. Now tomorrow I start my fall cleaning and upgrade. Thanks Don! I'm sure I will see you again!

Never undercoated any of my vehicles. Probably should. In fact, really should do so to the 2004 Explorer I currently have. Course I said the same thing last year - and look where that got me :emb: (hint is in the first sentence)

I've used expanding spray foam to fill a couple rust holes into the old Blazer to stop the exhaust from drafting into the vehicle, does that count?

Not a good idea now. I even have doubts about doing it on new vehicles, as it traps moisture. On your '04, I wouldn't.

It stops the rust by penetrating and becoming a barrier between the metal and the atmosphere. No oxygen, no iron oxidation. Nothing magical.

It has the added effect of making you think you're driving around in an old lady tag sale / antique store(at least that's what it smells like to me). It's lanolin based, so that's probably why.

I had it applied professionally by a firm who use an air sprayer up on a lift. I bought a small can to use on my snow blower.

My backup was New Hampshire oil undercoating. We'll see how fluid film does this year. I may try the other one next year.

The reason I've thought about it on the '04 is that when I bought it (used, almost 2 years ago at 135k miles), the dealership was the one that originally sold it and maintained it for the original owner. They said the owner had done the undercoating every couple of years, and it was in really good condition underneath because of that. And no, the dealership doesn't perform undercoating, so it wasn't a ploy for more of my money. Anyway, with all the salt and sand I drive thru during winter, I've thought it would help protect from rusting out - especially since I only get to the car wash a couple of times instead of on a regular basis as would be best.
