Today I got my saw out and couldn't pull the starter rope hard enough. I felt like it had way to much compression. Removed the spark plug which may have created another problem.
With the spark plug removed the saw pulled freely. The old man maybe getting weak, but I don't think so. I will have one of my grandsons try when they come over for deer hunting tonight. Anything else to check on the compression problem in the mean time?
Possible spark plug boot problem When I went to remove the sparkplug the spring section stayed on the plug. I pried it off. After that the boot fell off the wire. It looked like the spring just buts up against the wire. Does it or is it physically connected to the wire?
Things not going well today. Drug out the electric, bar oil reservoir was dry and my jug of bar oil is gone. Well no wood cutting today.

Already grabbed a cold one since I can't saw. Will dig out the Kombi and hopefully it works and I can whack some weeds.
Watching football is out of the question unless there is a college game on. Staging my own protest against NFL players and the "Solidarity Kneeling".

Might be off base here . But if the saw hasn't been run in a long while , the cylinder and case could be dry . So, you were pulling it through with no oil residue between the cylinder and rings .
The other end spring that attaches to the plug should just push into the plug wire .

It was run about 3 or 4 weeks ago. If that would be the case, what to do? More muscles or squirt some oil down the spark plug opening. Glad to here about the spring and plug wire.
By the way, I did smell some fuel when I sniffed the plug. From the beginning it was hard, so I don't think the problem is flooding.

Try a small amount of fresh mix into either the carb ,or plug hole .

Saw is running. Grandson showed up and I put the plug back in. No start. Reseated the wire into the boot and after many pulls it started. Also he had my bar oil. So I got the small amount of cutting done. I was just trimming up some rounds before splitting. Back to normal on the starting compression.
    Thanks.

It sounds like it was "dry." Did you run it out of gas the last time you used it?
