So I will be working on this stack of pine that the local utilities company cut from our neighbors yard. There's a few rounds of apple in there too. The neighbor saved it for me.
I'll bring the splitter over and get the black walnut that was cut when they did our side earlier in the summer. I have to move that pile from my neighbor's yard this weekend. It's all btu's, and in my backyard.

Yeah it's all bucked up. Nothing massive in diameter, and a few need to be re cut as there's a few that are too long. I'd rather have too long and have to recut than super short 10-12" shorties like the much of the walnut was cut. The walnut that isn't super short, is super long . Absolutely no consistency from that guy. This pine and apple seems a bit more consistent at least.
Ok, 1 load on the trailer. It looks like this will be 2 loads, each load being 2/3 of a cord. Here's a one of the bigger apple rounds, on top with the blue paint. I stacked most of the walnut that was cut previously to clean it up and make more room when I get the splitter here. Yeah, I'll have to run the saw too. There's some gnarly walnut pieces and some extra long pine and walnut. This should all be 18/19 shoulder season wood. I'll get the second load and stack the first load after the Badgers game.
Ok, I sorta listened to you. At halftime I went and unloaded and stacked that first trailer load. The long pieces are to the left. That's 2 rows deep. Here's what's left on the neighbor's land. Doing wood work like this is great. Walk out to the end of the yard, do some work, then take a break. It is still pretty warm out. I went out in shorts and a t shirt at halftime. The neighbor wanted to replant right away, and I'll gladly let him. It will give us both more privacy, and me some firewood.
I got the second load. I then stacked the rest, and recut the long ones to size. Here's the final score from the utilities cutting. My couple of walnut on the left in back, the Apple on the left front, and a bunch of pine on the right side. Probably about 1.66 cord total. Now to get the splitter here.
Good show! I have some pine on deck for tomorrow, myself. Still working through a few dump truck loads I got dropped off for free three years ago. Logger saw me out in the garage changing oil when he drove by, saw the stacks and said "ya want some more wood? Got a bunch of 4'long pine clogging up my landing." Couldn't say yes fast enough. It's been laying barkless in my spot for three years, who knows how long at his place. After splitting and stacking it takes about a month to get feather light and dry enough to light with a match. Great to get the boiler cooking fast when we just need to run for a couple hours and maintain the house temp on a chilly overnight. Pine is fine!
