My county in Maine is the poorest in all of New England, and to help those in need area loggers donate tree length firewood to the Waldo County Firewood Shed. Volunteers cut and split firewood and then it is distributed to those in need. It works pretty simply; if a person needs firewood they call the phone number, then pick up 1/4 of a cord of wood. They can do this every week, but they must call, and they can only pick up 1/4 cord. I gladly support them because there are a lot of older people in Maine who love wood heat, but are poor and need heat to get through our cold winters. My heart has always gone out to the elderly just because they are so vulnerable, and most have worked hard all their lives. Here is the sad part; some low life scum drove their pickup to the firewood storage facility and started loading up their truck...stealing wood. They were caught and taken to court thankfully, but what low lifes. They could have just called the phone number and got 1/4 cord per week if they really needed it. To steal firewood volunteers put up for the sake of the poor in the community is a low of lows.
That just sucks that someone would do that. We really need to take care of our elderly, they deserve better.
I could not agree more Lodgedtree. It is one thing to be a thief, but to steal from the poor and elderly is a real low life. That is the world we live in.
You all got a good thing going there but as far as the guy loading his truck doesn't surprise me one bit that's the world we live in master Jack
Put the lazy SOB to work on the splitter for the winter. He gets a 1/4 cord for every 5 cord he splits. Extra 1/4 for every load he delivers to someone in need. First time he screws up lock the deadbeat up for 30 days. Great way to teach him to work for what he needs. May even learn a thing or two about helping folks in need. Good on your volunteers LT. We all gotta do our part to help the elderly, we'll be there one day too. A C
There are all kinds of people in this world. Stealing from the poor is a terrible thing, but how about stealing from the deceased? While on patrol about 15 (maybe longer) years ago, I was working on a mothers day Sunday (Im a police officer.) While I was driving around some churches, I noticed a truck full, and I mean full, with flowers. I assummed they were putting them out on the graves in the cemetary, a common custom on mothers day. Instead of taking them from the truck to the grave sights, they were loading them into the truck. THEY WERE STEALING FLOWERS FROM GRAVESIDES! Needless to say after 2 days of finding out the cost of the flowers, I ended up charging these 2 women with a felony theft charge each. Total was almost 2500$ worth of flowers. They told the judge they wanted to make their yards look nice, and they didn't figure the dead people would mind...thats a quote from them during their court hearing. It never ceases to amaze me at the pure stupidity and just how mean some people are.
Hope you continue your tradition and support LodgedTree. Always need good favored people in our lives. I'm sure many are thankful of your efforts and remaining nameless as always.
1 lesson to be learned, and 1 to be taught: Learned: put a wildlife camera in a strategic spot or two, to picture faces and vehicles. Taught: Guy likes wood so much, maybe y'all should tie a rope around his neck and let him hang from a limb....
Yes this is a crime but wood grows on trees no? If the law doesn't sort this foolish person out, then take this road. Give it to the person full force as the crime fits a punishment
It never ceases to amaze me what people will do for firewood. I think Ive read a few stories on here about members who have come home and found their winters wood gone, right? People disgust me sometimes. I wont grab bucked up rounds from a freshly felled tree in someones front yard without permission, nevermind help myself to their seasoned stacks!
I was one of those people I think. I am not sure if I ever said this story before or not, probably...but my Uncle one time found guys loading his cut, split and stacked firewood into the back of their pickup. They saw him coming so they took off and he chased them down the road. He used his cell phone to call in the plate number and they ran the guys plate. While he was still chasing them the police dispatcher told my uncle...which you must understand we live in a very rural area and everyone knows us...they said, "oh they are your neighbors and don't have much money, and you guys own plenty of land so you can just get more." That is not the point...they are stealing!! Here the police can hide behind a corkscrew they are so crooked, but it goes the other way too...they look the other way when law abiding citizens take justice into their own hands.
Id be more than willing to offer my assistance to a neighbor in need, but Id just as soon send lead at you at high velocity if you just try and steal it from me!
I agree. Last week I saw some bucked logs sitting beside the road waiting for the city to come pick them up and haul them to the landfill. I stopped 3 times at their house to see if I could take them off theor hands but noone ever came to the door. Sure I could have just got them cause trash on the roadway is considered public property, bit I absolutely will not pull my truck into somebodys yard, even if it is in the ditch line, to get some wood without permission. I never got the wood cause nobody answered the door.
I can not "like" this status. It is not the dispatchers job to determine what crime is being committed, nor is it their job to tell your uncle that he could just get more of whatever is being stolen from him!! That is unacceptable and I don't like heating stories like that. That should never have happened and Im sorry that your uncle had an experience lile that. I will give you anything you need of I have it to give. Just dont steal from me. I do not like a thief. Plain and simple. We work too hard for what little we all have. Especially for firewood. Not to mention the dangers involved in getting the wood.
best answer don't put him jail where we pay to house him...put him to work to replace it... don't give him a chainsaw give him a hand saw.. and a splitting maul I will donate some elm to his education..
