Hi Kimberly Here is some photos of mine may give you ideas on a stand, so easy the wee one can use it. Cheers Stewart
I am thinking about getting one too. I got a pot bellied stove and once and awhile there is a butt end that could be split. Since I am only splitting a 5 inch long round, i do not need anything big and powerful. An electric splitter mounted inside my woodshed would work well. I see Harbor Freight has one for $230, how could I go wrong? Thanks for your reviews.
I watched CL until a good deal popped up on a used one...paid $60 IIRC (that took a while BTW)(but I didn't really need one, sooo)
Thanks, I think I could probably build something from 2x4s. If my friend was still here I would get him to weld up a stand for me.
Yes, I found one on CL as well. The guy would not really budge much from his asking price but since it had not been used much; the paint wasn't even scratched off, I went ahead and gave him his price because I needed something. I knew that I was not going to be able to do much splitting by hand. I ended up paying $155.00 for the splitter and maybe $10 in fuel to drive down and back to pick up the splitter.
Yes, no engine fumes to worry about. A member here on FHC keeps one beside his stove for splitting kindling.
I have split some really tough stuff with my little splitter. I may have to retry a few times and rearrange the wood for a different attack method.
Maybe stacked cinder blocks would work to raise it up. Depending on how it would sit, a piece of plywood 9n top would git er dun. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
I am not splitting at the moment. I decided to stack what I split yesterday. Leveled an area beside the drive and put down a pallet and started stacking. It is so hot and humid here; I am sweating like a pig. I am doing the cross stacking which takes more time and more space but I still don't have any sort of real wood storage.
I really love my Boss 7 ton electric, purchased the stand kit and the log tray after I brought the splitter, would have purchased all at once if I realized how much easier these accessories make splitting easier .
Thanks. I have more pine to split and then I guess I will attack the poplar. I noticed a tall dead pine in the front property. However, it has a lean at the top towards the neighbour's. I would love to get the tree. I probably won't try it any time soon but I am wondering if I could tie it off and then maybe use wedges to make sure it drops on my side. These are new neighbours and I don't have any rapport with them.
