Well came back from the bahamas and the next day we got 6 inches of snow. Was hoping for more but looks to been misread by the weathermen. Decided to build a fire and enjoy the day off with my wife. Wish it was an insert but that will happen this summer. Need to seriously start processing some quicker drying wood for next year.
That is a beautiful screen! We are gonna have to as well I gave away a bunch to a few people wood because it was there sole heat. I'm not behind but I'm getting nervous about it just the same....
I feel like all I do is flip flop on ideas. I keep coming back to the osburn 2400. The size and good reviews are hard to ignore. Just wish I had clearance for a free standing stove in my fireplace.
I bought the 2400 this past year. It has been a good heater that has filled the shoes of my old smoke dragon well. I can get overnight burns with it in cold weather and the smoke dragon could not. Not having to get up in the middle of the night is really nice. What is the square footage of your house?
Its 2100 including a small unfinished basement. Stairs come down facing the fireplace. Pretty open to the dining and kitchen. I feel like a well placed fan would circulate some heat to bedrooms upstairs. Other then this crazy winters ours arent to bad. Pretty mild so I really think I could get some nice overnight burns with the 2400.
I am heating about the same footage. About half is from the 80's and the rest is from 1810 with a serious renovation in 1952. I think the 2400 could do 100% of the heating most winters just not this one. I have a floor plan that circulates air well with the help of a box fan in a little used doorway.
Its been a great day. I cannot wait to get an insert in this house to use the heat instead of lose the heat. My princess (the dog), and my wife stealing her bed. Everyone is looking forward to next winter and an insert
I was thinking the same as Pallet Pete, that's the best screen I have seen! Nice to get home after a vacation and have a nice fire at home, isn't it? You will need to get started on choosing some quick drying wood placed in a nice sunny/windy area.
Yea I have some leads on some old stacks from people moving and some other quick drying species. Just have to get out there and get them.
I looked several times at the Osburn inserts. I think they seem to be a good stove. I ended up buying our new Buck stove because of a local dealer that I like really well. It's a tank and very well built.
