Candycane beets

    Finally grew some nice beets in the garden. I tried this candycane variety and they look really cool. I have a slicer to get them thin. A light dressing and I eat them raw.

    Yeah pretty sweet. They are also eaten within an hour of being picked so that might have something to do with it.

    Have you tried lightly oiling, salting and sticking them in the oven to try to make chips?

    No I didn't. What I did do this time as a bit of a test was to deep fry some extra slices. Turned out crispy, but they were sliced too thin. Oven method sounds easier, but it's over 90 degrees today, so will have to wait.
