I have a 20" sugi lite with 2 RS chains on the way from a fellow FHC member. Will try to get it in some wood soon.
Looks nice Mark. The Chips Flyn decals are a nice touch. For your first job and using a dremel I think it turned out great, and of course the proof is when you put it in wood. Keep up the good work.
I ran out of juice today to move a 150lb log up steps, around the house and into the back yard. We'll see what happens tomorrow. PA Dan and I might meet up one evening next week. I don't have YouTube but he does. Maybe we can get a vid up.
The vid worked fine. The saw sounds good and the tuning did not sound bad to me either. Congrats on your new firewood saw.
Couple additions to the saw. $2 yard sale case modified so the saw would fit. I could not see paying a pile of money for a new case. It required bunch of trimming in the inside, small flap in the top for chain bake handle room and small extension out the back while maintaining plastic flap for the bottom - secured with bent aluminum and auto tap screws. I had a can of black epoxy paint so figured why not give the case a quick coat.
New to me, the 20" Sugi lite bar is all cleaned up and ready to go. Use # 987 for WD40 -- wet sanding chainsaw bars - bar was stripped with auto tripper , sanded with 400 then 600 grit paper. Also, some plastic tubes with caps that ended up being nice chain holders. One fold of the chain and rolled in shop rag - they fit perfect.(opps missed a g in aggressive on the one tube - spelling was not my forte - give me some math and science I can enjoy)
Some pretty cool stuff there. I like the fact you converted a case to fit your saw. I would say your ready for a trip to the woods and put that baby to work. So you modify and build your own saw. Modify a case for it. Modify a bar to your liking. sharpen some extra chains yourself and come up with some good storage. Pretty satisfying if you ask me.
I have to give credit to Mike - the chains were sharp when I got them. I will give them tuneups as needed though. I wanted to do everything by myself and a happy it all worked out. Reading your post this is what I heard in my head. LOL
Here's the final numbers for everything in the entire project. I had $325 in my "saw fund" from profit on selling 2 other saws. My goal was to be under $300 with $25 flexibility as a running saw with the 16" bar that I had and 2 new CL chains. Project item list: Saw P/C with seals / bearings/ gaskets kit Paint and primer - got hit with paint due to the clear coat clouding up in the high humidity. Darn extra $20. Carb kit Outer dawg Handle AV rubber set Starter rope Oregon rim set up with 2 rims - 7 and 8pin Few screw/nuts/bolts. Dye for the handle. 2 chains Grand total with tax. $295.43 with $30 going towards the 20" Sugi lite and chains.
