Maybe the pickings are better close to the city, fewer wood burners.

Midwinter is a real go-getter. She has a yard surrounded by stacks of split wood that she scrounged. She has the ability to peruse the listings, and not afraid to load up her SUV. She gas got it figured out!

I think you are right with that. Ive got 7 cords that I got from non burners in Dracut and Andover. They will pay to have someone drop the trees and leave them as they fall, and know that they can be disposed of for free via Craigslist.

Its been pretty slim pickings for those lately, hopefully the activity will pick up once the ground freezes.

It has been few and far between lately. I don't know much about the seasonal aspect of tree removal. It sure seemed busier in the spring.

Seems like I don't see as many as I did a few years ago. But I still have several years in the backyard plus my best friends place. Several cords of black locust plus he has several huge white oaks down after a tornado this summer. Maybe I have just gotten selective in the wood I grab, I don't know.

I think that's true for this area as well. We have ice storm and high winds sometimes, but what comes down are the white pines, not hardwoods.

perhaps I just had better luck finding the trees in the winter because a lot of people dont want to work outside when its real cold? Meanwhile, Im in my processing area swinging the axe in a tee shirt when its 30 degrees out.

I don't do a lot outside on the winter except carry wood into the house. I try to get everything stacked & covered, or at least piled up and covered, before the snow starts. Love those sunny winter days when the ground is bare, though, to putter around! Now you've got me looking forward to winter.

I sweat peeling an orange, so the cold weather is welcomed in my house! I can work outside for hours in a sweatshirt at most.

Ha ha the guy who gave me the elm on CL is now giving away 6 or 7 bags of sawdust, guess he had to do some noodling!

Splitting rounds of wood when frozen, is a fine way to spend a winter's morning.

Makes me smile as well. The X27 and rounds of oak were meant for each other.
