On the way to an appointment the other day I saw a little pile of free wood set back off the road a bit. Finished up the appointment (paperwork for a new job and career change) and saw it still there on the way back. Changed clothes, swapped over to the truck, grabbed my old man for traffic control, and raced back. Still there! Due to a number of physical ailments, Dad (up north to visit from south Carolina) wasn't able to do any lifting, but it sure was nice to spend the time together. Got 'er bucked, split, and stacked Sunday on a couple fence rails backed up with a T-post. Black Locust and ash, no borer evidence (checked before loading) but did find a little surprise in the ash. Thankfully not with the saw!
Man, glad your chain didn't find that in the ash. Locust and Ash are such a nice combo, they even look right side by side in a stack. Is that an Impala SS (or Caprice Classic) with the dented quarter panel?
Good that you got to still get that and getting it with Dad along makes is super sweet! I like that you are using simple things to stack the wood on. Use what is available and not much cost to contend with there and it didn't take much to haul those poles there either. When it comes time to replace them, it is very quick and easy to dispose of too. And what is that black strap on the log in the truck?
Nice little bundle pile there, good for a couple days in your OWB depending on the time of the year eh?
That's a 95 Impala SS - genuine WX3 car. Since moving a couple years ago, I can now get the body work taken care of and get her back on the road. (Once I catch up on wood!) Used to run 13.8 with some bolt-ons; headers, gears, intake, 9" 3k converter, pcm tune. She might find a little heads/cam package once she's rolling again...
Yep, no time for another pallet farm, so the fence rails did the trick. I think I'll keep them going to compete this row. The strap is black duct tape - no idea why someone wrapped it around a couple of the logs. I thought maybe to drag them with, but... I dunno! Strange for sure. FatBoy85 - you're right. Depending on how well this Locust burns (it will be my first) maybe four or five days of food. They're cut to an honest 24", which is nice.
Can't argue about what I hear about BL. Next to burning coal and bricks. Great way to get it done for the night shifts. Likely to get a chance to burn up a little bit this year. Probably not outta the big pile I started on yet but had a little bit from the neighbor cut up. Hope my stove doesn't have issues with it....
