Ok. The millwright in me just wouldnt leave it alone. I figured out another way to do it, and I only needed 1x16" pipe. The only Selkirk pipe available in my area is piece of telescoping pipe that went from 12 to 18 inches. Fine. Off I go to get it. Cost me $61. An hour later I was back home. Thats when I discovered that Selkirk has changed the way their pipes go together sometime in the past 8 years and it wont work. And THAT my friends is why Im not laying another finger on this dambed thing until a pro has put in the flue. Lol. Back to the above plan and Im sticking to it this time !!!!! Arrrrgh !!!!! Lol.

Well...I seem to have solved my clearance issue. I needed a few inches of extra room She hated the fake wood paneling on the one wall. I hated the pot lights. I never did finish tiling the floor in the area that the original stove sat and now I cant get anymore of that tile.

Yep....you guessed it. Total reno of the stove area. Drop ceiling is out. Ductwork has been modified. Paneling is off. Tiles and thinset is stripped off the floor. New tile is in the garage. My laptop is out for repair right now and posting pictures is a pain with a phone now that photobucket has shut everyones third party hosting thing down. Ill take pics on the phone and post them somewhere when my computer gets back. At least when its done, everything will be nice and bright and new in there.....with lots of space for the new stove to blast out heat.

Alright. Going to see if this imgur or whatever it is, sharing thing works
This is the wood stove alcove. This started out with "we"ve got to move one duct and one board. Lol

Floor stripped of lenoleum (sp) and tile. New tile is there waiting to be laid tomorrow night.

Took the 80s fake wood panel down and have the drywall ready to go back up.

See the hot air plenum...the square beside it is the cold air return for the furnace. Going to run a 6" vent pipe from that over to where the stove is going to sit. Im planning on running the furnace fan all winter. We'll put a shut off flap on it so I can shut it down when opening the stove door. If I get a little smoke out, theres no reason to send it straight to ever room in the house. She'll smell it soon enough no doubt. Lol.

    New tile ready to install.

And finally, the chimney thimble and fresh air intake. See the duct above it ? Thats the one thats been giving all the clearance grief. We managed to get another 12" of clearance by cutting it and moving things around a bit. The box on the wall is my breaker panel.

Yep...just going to move one thing and a board.....lol. I should have it all done by the end of next weekend.

I'll give you guys a life tip. How to get your wife to make a decision on what tile she wants, quickly.
Show up at Home Depot at 7:50pm (honestly thought they closed at 9pm) and find out they are closing in 10 minutes. Say to her that she has 5 minutes to pick a tile or I (the colorblind guy) will pick one because its getting laid down tomorrow morning. Lol

It really was a pretty good trip to the store. Left the house at 7:30pm. Got back home at 8:30pm ! Admittedly, 5 minutes is pretty rushed, but picking out something like floor tile should not be a 12 step process that takes days, or weeks to finish. Welcome to man shopping. :)

They are normally open till 9pm, but they just switched over to their winter hours. Things run a little different here from summer to winter, mainly due to the daylight hours. At the end of June, its light enough to work outside until 11 to 11:30pm. The end of December, the sun sets shortly after 4pm and its dark dark out by 4:45pm or so. Theres much less construction and stuff going on in winter, so why pay staff the extra hour if most of your big spending contractor customers are either not working at all or have gone home for the night. Late shopping retail customers just have to suck it up.

New floor is started. Yay ! Theres my non combustable surface issue solved. Id liked to have gotten more done, but I wound up having to work late. Not too bad for 4 hours work including cleanup. No...Im not a professional tile guy. Lol.

I have made an important life discovery ! I can get all the overtime I want at work ! All I have to do is have a 'must be done by' project going at home.....poof !....just like that....overtime galore. I only got 3 more rows done tonight, but hey....thats three more I dont have to do tomorrow night. Only 4 left to go. Big finish tomorrow. Im also going to call my stove guy and tell him to push the flue install and WETT inspection back one more week. Theres no way Im getting this all finished by Sunday.

That's something else, you have to put a layer of tile on top of cement for it to be non-combustible surface :loco:

Yep. They just want to sell everyone one of their over priced fireproof pads to go under their stove. Lets face it...mosf people will just pony up $300-400 rather than tile an entire floor. Meh...it needed to be done anyway.

Yes, that is quick. I think I walked around Lowe's tile section on and over over a period of days thinking of what tile I wanted for my hearth pad.

Lowe's does the same here for their Sunday hours in winter; they close at 6:00pm instead of 7:00pm. I am unsure if they reduce the other hours of the week or not.

Yes, I had some to say that I should have just brought a floor pad. My cost for my hearth pad was $120.00 (not counting my labour) and it was wider than the floor pad and I think looks a whole lot better.
