Was up and out the door early. Took a couple shots of the sunrise first then off to the woods where I finished my coffee and got busy. Jumped 2 nice deer while strolling around with coffee in hand. Two nice loads of mostly beech with a little ash and maple mixed in but 95% beech....oh and a couple rounds of cherry. 2 pics of the first load and then the 2nd load with the wheelbarrow on top. Still have some real big boys to get but decided to just work the stuff that I could load with out the ramp. Wife just came home with a saying she saw somewhere " Going to the woods is like going home" couldn't agree more.
I've lost count but either 5 or 6 loads out of this area of beech and there is at least one more but all big hogs now. Found some red oak, cherry and what I think is maybe hickory just a short distance from this. I have to keep after this area because I can't get in except when the crops are gone.
Nice loads! I wish I could get out and cut without having to deal with knee deep snow.(deeper in spots)
We've got snow back on the ground now, but not knee deep. I'm off Thursday and Fridy so hope to get out on Thursday.and cut some more. Friday is a date with my wife to Amish country.
I've burnt some hickory this year and I still like locust better, but a guy has to have some variety.
Thanks Cert.....truck's been doing me fine so far we're on it's 2nd year of wood hauling. Gotta put some radius arm bushings in soon.
Beech, ash, maple and cherry... Can't beat that and they all will dry out fairly quickly too! Looks like almost a cord to me.
I'd say close to a cord. Beech is one of my favorites, it probably won't see the stove for several years. I'm at least 3-4 years ahead.
Really looks good to see some bare ground. We'll have to wait a few weeks yet to see that happen and I'm really getting the itch to do some cutting. Most years I'm finishing up on the cutting about now. Ha! I've hardly began cutting this year.
Hoping you are right Locust, but another below zero night tonight. -11 looks like the low then tomorrow, a +11 for the high. Guess it won't be in any danger of melting just yet.
The 10 day shows one day in the 30's, this is getting old. Only bonus is I can play around with the kids on the snowmobile a while longer. After it melts we're gonna have a muddy mess around here.
