I would have a very hard time retreating to a stock 660 vs a 661. I just do not care for the way a stock 660 runs, feels neutered, especially compared to an older 066.

I agree it's time for a sit-down with your dealer. Stihl should come through for you, it's a matter of the dealer talking through the right channels. There are known issues with early production 661s (would not keep me from buying a new one if I needed a 90cc saw...) and Stihl is not known for telling its customers to go pound sand.

Yes, I read an article the other day that a guy was having issues with a Stihl saw; he was a few months out of the warranty but the saw did not have many hours on it. He had the dealership to service it but they could not fix the problem. Stihl came through and ended up giving him a new powerhead even though his saw was out of warranty.

Yea I would make stihl get this right, esp dice you just paid to fix it. Once running right sell that saw and find you a good used 660 here or one of the credible saw forums and be done with it for good.
I figured that he would not be comfortable buying a saw that old since he can't work on them. I would agree and I would buy an 066

If the shop fixes it again, run it there to see if it still has a hot start issue. Bring some wood if needed.:)

Wow I sure hate hearing this.....can't wait to hear what they say...

One thing for certain, they need to make this right, it's only right for you to have a saw that works!!!

Is this saw and it's computer a result of the EPA & emissions crap?

I don't know, however I suspect emissions played a part in it's development.

I just ask because we all know Stihl knows how to build a saw, and we've all watched the govt. ruin gas engines's back in the 80's and now they've destroyed the (up until now) the beautifully simple compression ignition (diesel) engine. (not to mention the 2 flush water saving chitter)

Not back yet. The parts just arrived yesterday at the dealer. I expect in a day or so. Hopefully in time to tale it to Walt's for a tryout. As soon as I know, you'll know:handshake:

I dont recall if I mentioned earlier in the thread but I would also have your dealer put a meter on cable between the coil and carb to verify there are no resistive faults.

I received word at 5:45 that my 661 is ready to be picked up, to the tune of over $200!:faint: I'll pick it up tomorrow and take it to Walt's on Friday for a test cut or 10.

The Stihl regional manager called me about the saw about 10 days ago but was of no help with ideas. And I guess Stihl isn't covering any of the cost of a saw that never really run and has been "fixed" twice before at my cost and was never really fixed.
