Your last pic looks like you were trying to get away from a bomb....:startled:

    Is that the pump?
I've never seen any part of a splitter glow like that:eek:

I'll  until someone else chimes in!

    Stay safe tg.weaver

It's the pipe that comes off the engine and goes for the muffler. The last pic was a mistake

Mistake or not, now I can see that it's going to the muffler....a hot pipe that is!

Nah, just the no/low ambient light makes it so you can "see" the temperature of the exhaust manifold and/or pipe.
Steel starts to glow at 900* or so...and combustion chamber temps run well above that, so...

I've had the muffler on my 394 glow (not quite that bright) while milling in the dark.

Dad had an old Ford diesel tractor when I was a kid...I liked riding with him at night because the exhaust manifold would glow red and it blew sparks straight up out of the muffler when it was working hard...easily amused I guess I was...

Running full throttle for a long time will do that.
I doubt there is a problem.

I never realized it was getting that hot till I had a job that took me into the evening when it started getting dark. Imagine 10 minute wide open cuts w/ a 50"b/c and I had to trim the log to fit my 48" mill!

I have one that'll have a fire out the stack under full load at night. No wonder it eats mufflers.

Probably not a problem.... if it has a spark arrestor just make sure it's clean...could clog up and cause a bit of a hot situation....

Think I have to worry about it exploding? I check oil level tonight after pulling the muffler it is low. No spark arrester that I found might order a new muffler only like 10 bucks. Thoughts
