I was at the local Tractor Supply Company today and noticed there line up for chainsaws seamed to have changed a bit. They had a lot of red Jonsered chainsaws. I think they had one other type but I did not have time to look. I just grabbed a gallon of bar/chain oil and paid and booked to get back in the woods. But I did notice something different. Lots of red Jonsered saws. What can you guys tell me about them? Good. Bad. Or indifferent. Not that these folks are experts about them. But I "saw" this when I was starting to look into the Jonsered saws. My "larger" saw, their last one, did very well in their review. http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/reviews/outdoor-tools/chain-saw-comparison-field-test#slide-1
Brother has had a J-red 2165, I think, for 15-20 years. Probably still has the original chain on it, and plug.........
Husqvarna in different colored plastic. Most of the models in husky are available in the jonsered line.
Never ran a Jonsered until December - now own three. I am very impressed with them. Two are autotune models that keep getting better with each outing. Local TSC is not stocking any pro-rated saws that I have seen. My experience with the Jreds has been very positive plus I like the red and black paint.
Yep. I think the 910 was the last "real" Jonsereds saw before the Electrolux buy out, even though they still have their name on some pretty sweet saws (Huskys)
Always wanted a Jred 2094 or 2095.Werent sold very long, seem to be scarce now.My old Poulan Pro 475 from the early 90's was a rebadged 2077/Partner 7700 after the Electrolux takeover.
I have only owned 2, a 910 I still have and a 2083 I traded off. Only paid $50 for the 2083, traded it for a Husky 365 and then traded that off for a nice Poulan 245 and $90.
I have heard many great things about them....old ones and new ones as well !! Never had one either.....YET !!
I wonder if there's a big price difference between the two? Husky and the reds ? Same quality saw with different colored plastic, right ?
Same saws 2253=550 2260=560 2166=365 2172=372 2188=390 2186=385 2095 was the last pure jonsered design.
Have you run a 2186/385? How does it compare to the 2188/390? I read somewhere the 385 was a stronger stock saw.
Not sure Mike, I was thinking the 910 was the last pure Jred, and the 2095 was a Jred/Electrolux engineered saw that had no Husky counterpart. Sawtroll would probably know, as I am not 100% on my Jred history.
You never see them used here. Since the ice storm there is a tree crew selling them out of their bucket truck advertising them on CL. I have a log her that uses them and also sells them, there a dealer. They have a gas station/ parts store and sell them there.
It all depends on whether you have a good dealer close by. We are fortunate to have a servicing dealer close by for Stihl and Jonsered. Husky dealer is not located conveniently for me or I would probably have one. Do have a good Dolmar dealer about twenty miles away so may have to try them out someday.
The front handle on the Jonsereds tend to be straight while the Husqvarnas are angled. (This is on the rear handled saws.) To add to the list above: 2139T = 338xpt Besides color, the only difference in these two saws is the recoil cover & the muffler cover.
When I priced them locally the Jred was $25 higher than the Husky for comparable saw. Worth the extra $25 for the sexy red paint!
I think they still are but maybe case there is no husky dealer close there capturing the husky market in that local?
Only Husky I ever owned or ran was 25 years ago - I believe model was a 42 - seems like it had a dark brown top - nice sized little saw but never could keep it running. Looking back I am sure it was because of neglect on my part. It would set in the shop for months at a time with gas in tank. Ended up giving it to a local family in need of a firewood saw and replaced it with an 024 Stihl.
