Split up a huge round and realized all the pieces were too long to fit the stove so I had to do this., That's less than half of the splits from one round in the picture Glad I had my jig handy to get her done pretty quick Since that happened I put marks on my splitter now for the length, shouldn't happen again.
No I don't do that often, thank goodness but, I do get lot of smaller rounds and some splits from scrounges that have to be re-cut.
Nice. The Liberty can handle my longer splits and uglies... not ideal, but it works. I like your technique to get 'em down to size.
This is the year I burn our setup for cutting the longer splits shorter, I don't think I used it in a few years but if we do get something over 17 we'll burn it east west.
Man! Do I have that t-shirt! Before I bough an insert all my wood was cut and split at 25". When I got the insert it would only take 18" splits and the reality was it would only take 17" at the longest. So I had about 6 cord I had to shorten!
I cut to 17" but my Republic is square 18" it's nice I can load either way but if it's too long I have no options. If I run across a couple long ones I can actually get 19" long in NS on the second row once I get past the lip, sometimes when I do that they will poop on the glass though. That huge round I had was cut when it dumped in the yard, it looked close and I didn't measure it
Hate when that happens! I cut with my Dad and brother sometimes and always find myself doing a LOT of trimming since my Lopi is a bit finicky with lengths. How about a few more shots of that trim rig HDRock ?
I'm thinking we've got the same stove! I cut for the same any of my marking tools are set for a 16-18" wood plus when you get a little wild behind the handle it gives you a 2" target to hit with the bar
Yeah we do have the same stove, only difference is mine is free standing. I got some more pictures of that jig I'll put up in a little while, made it out of pallet wood and a short piece of 2 x 4 I had laying around
That was a big factor when I was shopping for a new insert. I wanted something that was similar size firebox as the old stove. I can eyeball at about 16 to 20 inches when cutting, if I do get a long one I usually just put that on the fire pit stack. I can fit 22" n/s.
