EAB in Northern NY

I'm not sure if anyone put this up, this is 40 some miles north of here on the St.Lawrence River.

I read that the other day. Too bad. I don't have enough time in the day so I have a guy with a good reputation lined up to come and harvest most of my Ash trees. He'll be starting in a couple weeks.

 

We have some Ash which I always left alone, this fall once the leaves fall off, I'll get a few.

 

It's hard to like these posts about EAB just because I hate to see them dying out. They are all dead here in WNY or will be completely in the next few years. Our tree department at work is not allowed to climb them regardless of what they look like since they have been failing in odd places and that's no good when you are in the tree! Not to mention while cutting from the ground there's a lot more risk as far as how the tree will act and unseen widow makers

 

We are going to have a few Ash on our property treated to try to save them. A few around the house and a few in different places on the property. Also leaving many young ones of course. But I have a logger in now who is cutting a lot of our Ash. He is experienced in tree trimming, harvesting, etc. and is experienced in treating the Ash now. Told me he would treat a few for me for the cost of the material.

He use to own one of the biggest trimming companies around here. Then a bigger player bought his company from him. He is cutting mostly for firewood here. I have taken many of the bigger ones for saw logs and sold them to the Amish saw mills over the last few years.

I think I'll be planting some Maple, Oak, Cedar, Apple and maybe a few other species over the next few years after I get my main trails in decent shape. Hopefully that will get done in the next few months.

 

My Dad had a couple treated a few years back in his yard and so far so good
