How is it legal to sell these in the US? 25:1 means the internals are cheaper quality and need a higher amount of oil to keep from seizing up. Basically a cheap throw-away saw that pollutes like mad.
The good thing about the saw is that you don't have to worry about the mosquitoes bothering you while you cut; it has a built in mosquito fogger.
I also found it interesting the guy didn't know what he was suppose to do to start the saw. My first thought was that it did not come with an operators manual. Then near the end he mentions that it had two books. I guess he couldn't read the one in English either.
At the end of the video when he was cutting it was smoking goody. It is possible he mixed the fuel too rich at that time.
The 25:1 recommendation comes from mixing with regular motor oil and not specialized two-stroke oil as we are used to doing here in the US. The saws range from surprisingly good to really bad. At least in regards as to how they perform. There doesn't seem to be any real quality control and I can assure you that these saws in no way, shape, or form, conform to any of the quality controls or safety standards that the 1st tier manufacturers hold themselves to. I wonder if the manufacturer's of these saws can be held liable for injuries caused by these products if the components can be proven inferior?
I looked more into these saws. It appears there are several "brands" of these saws with the same powerhead covered in different plastics. The saws probably are overrated as much of the stuff coming out of China can be; at least as far as electrical stuff is concern. These saws might indeed handle casual use and last the life of the owner. I did see several videos where the complaint was the filters on the fuel are cheap and cause issues and the air filter allows "crap" to get by and cause issues. I don't have the funds to buy one to play with. There is a YouTuber that I like to watch that actually takes tools apart to expose their weakness; he recently took apart a "Harbour Fraud" Hercules drill/driver apart and showed how it was not worth the money paid; he also called out Harbour Frieght on their outright false/misleading adverts. If you are interested search YouTube for Ave channel. Anyway, if one has the funds, it would be interesting to see one of these saws disassembled to check them out, and then perhaps see where modding it would improve them. If they are decent saws the prices are good. I actually looked on ebay for a saw when the Poulan turned out to be bad and I had to return it. I did indeed looked at some of the Chinese saws but I questioned them as to quality.
I posted as you were posting so didn't see until after I posted. I understand, these saws may actually be marketed to the Chinese market and thus not subject to the regulations of the US. That is one of the things about ebay, just because you can buy it on ebay and have it shipped to the US does not mean it meets the US regulations.
Ave is quite entertaining. Most of the time he is on point too. I love that he is countering modern "engineering to a price point" by educating the enthusiast audience about the tools they are so loyal to. The more educated folks get about what they are buying, the more informed their decisions will be rather than sticking to one color or the other. Don't get me wrong, education can create brand loyalty just as well as it eliminates blind loyalty to one brand or the other.
I've heard that there's a rule about imports don't need to meet USA regulations if numbers don't exceed some limits. So the Chinese change the labels and maybe the case colour and ship another batch.
The Huztl/Farmertec "660" saws have pleasantly surprised many people...not that there haven't been some kinks to work out...but pretty decent for the money invested in many/most cases. I built one...haven't put any time on it yet though... And yes...the chineese saws will run 40:1 or even 50:1 just fine if using a quality synthetic oil. I also run all my stuff at 32:1 on Yamalube 2 dino oil...no smoke issues...but 25:1 is pretty strong though, I bet that would fog some... I'm sure the chineese are skirting, to outright ignoring legalitys on this whole deal though
For $80? Why not? Even if it lasts only one year, thats only a buck and a half a week...spend that much on one cup of coffee at the gas station!
I have a few chineese saws. Quality is pretty good on them. I have been happy with the money I paid for them. I take them to the farm and they bounce around on the trailer and in the back of my truck even while strapped down, or put them in the ATV saw holder. Rather them take the beating over a better saw. And I too run my stuff at 32:1 very little smoke when tuned right, not really anymore than 50:1 that I can tell. There is a guy I watch on youtube that compares the major tool brand truck tools and HF ones, not sure if the same guy. The ones I saw on the impacts said the HF one was good as was their breaker bar for 1/10 the price.
I have the HF 18 inch break bar; at $8.00 it was a good buy. It works a charm to break lug nuts loose. Would it hold up putting a six foot steel pipe on it? Probably not. Would I attempt it if I was in a bind to break a nut loose? Maybe, at $8.00 for a replacement why not if it was imperative that the nut came loose.
