Ive had good luck with Technu as well. Usually try and avoid where it might be like the plague works for me, I have a lot of it around my house though. I was picking up some free bucked up rounds from craigslist yesterday. There was a bunch stacked in the guys driveway, and a bunch more in the woods next to the road. The guy was nice enough to point out the stuff in the woods, but not enough to mention that it was totally surrounded by PI! Luckily I scoped it out carefully before going in.
Ivarest is good for the itching, Ivarest Poison Ivy Itch Cream | Ivarest Dish soap showers are good too, warm to cool water, gets the oil off
Well, my clothes went in the hamper with my other dirty clothes. I have used my gloves several times since then also. I may have grown more to be more susceptible to poison ivy than I once was. Tomorrow I will get one of the products mentioned. Thanks.
Be careful with the clothes you will get more oil on you or anyone else . Oil can stay on tools , shoes etc 2 to 5 years and make you break out . (I may have grown more to be more susceptible to poison ivy than I once was. ) yup it happens to a lot of people
Pretty sure it is.. gramps had farm.. I never have had poison ivy on me neither has my father.. once worked pulling weeds out of trail... bare hands t shirt.. was told it was PI never got a rash... if small enough.. I pull it up roots too into garbage bag to the dump..
Trust me, you need to go ASAP! You have a severe reaction to urishol-the active part in the poison ivy. If you're having a reaction that bad, you need a shot at the doctor's office and then go get a prednisone dose pack (5 days with decreasing quantities daily). Otherwise it will keep spreading unabated and it will feel like a chemical burn at some points. Ask me how I know....
I had poison ivy on my whole body, I mean everywhere, including in between my fingers and toes, eyelids, in my hairline, all in my crotch area including all my junk I couldn't go out in the sun because it would make it burn and itch so badly. I didn't go to the doctor even though I probably should have, my parents were on a very very tight budget and already owed the doctor some money, so that's why. But hey, I didn't die
I got the tecnu poison ivy scrub. I think I'm improving already. I know I feel better. I washed all the clothes that shared the washing machine with the clothes I wore that day with hot water, detergent and added Dawn for good measure. After reading all the posts, I remembered that on Saturday I used the gloves I wore picking up firewood to help my neighbor fix fence. I may have spread the oil all over then. Thanks to everyone for all the info and advice.
I hear you. I was in the same boat when kid! Every square inch of my body. There wasn't one piece of smooth skin on my body! When I was about 9 years old me and my friend were riding our big wheel bikes down the hill and crashing into the weeds which was nothing but poison ivy as I found out later. We did that for most of the day, it was a hot day so we only were wearing flip flops and shorts! That was my introduction to poison ivy. My mom took me to the doctors because she thought that I had impitago. Which I am still not sure what that is, I know that it's some type of skin disease. The doctor just laughed and said he has poison ivy. I ended up missing a week of school because it was so bad. No shots for me. Just oatmeal bath and calimine lotion! The funny thing is my friend didn't get one bit if the itchy stuff! I was so jealous!
Yeah man , the only place I didn't have poison ivy was on the palms of my hands and the bottom of my feet , It was miserable
I was weed wacking on my new home build site and got into some PI. I noticed it when the wet bits of leaf were hitting me on the mouth. Thank goodness I do not react to it. I cannot imagine what it would be like as lesions inside my mouth.
Dang! That makes my rashes and bumps seem like nothing compared to that story. I have gotten it really bad this summer. Now Lyme disease rash, yep... that got me a bit lol.
I have had poison ivy so many times I can't count but never as bad as back then,.more educated on how to deal with it now. What's this, do you have a Lyme Disease rash?
Yepppp.... tiny tick bite (never saw it) turned into a blistering Lyme rash that took 21 days of Doxycycline to clear up. Fun lol.
I tangled with the dreaded ivy a week and a half ago. I was cutting down a small tree that fell in the yard "That's not PI! It's Virginia Creeper!" I washed up with Tecnu just in case. Two days later, it's on my arms. I wore full gear; boots, pants, saw chaps, helmet (with face shield and ear muffs), gloves...and a t-shirt. Guess why it's on my arms? I haven't had it for years. What was odd about this time was how it spread. I had a few spots two days later. Then more blisters started appearing here and there over subsequent days. Thankfully, that stopped and things began to calm down. I still wake up every night itching, but at least I can fall back to sleep. I figure it'll be a good two weeks before it finally runs it's course. Cliffs: The stuff is vile.
it certainly is- Ive never gotten those big oozing blisters, what I do get no matter how slight the contact is a rash over every square inch of me- Doc said it spread in the blood stream? At any rate its about 2 weeks of Satans inferno. Any thing that has 3 leaves /stem gets the geophosphate treatment , in the field I am always watching for it, its a wonder I have not had it more often with the hunting dogs. Maybe they tend wear it back off of themselves cruising through the brush. Last time was from the Gordon setter she jumpped up and scratched me through the shirt I had on must have just run through some as a few days later the rash showed up again starting right where she had scratched me.
