Thank you college kids going back to school. I picked up a new $10 crockpot tonight! Yah! Broke it in with some steamy Mexican Vegetable soup.

The tomatoes and peppers were. I did a very small container garden this summer with only a couple plants.

Cold, rainy and had a craving for wedding soup so made a small batch .

5 cups onions pureed , 5 cups celery chopped, 5 cups carrots chopped, 1.5 lbs chopped fresh kale, 2 whole roaster chickens cooked picked and chopped, about home made 160 /2 dollar size meatballs = 4 lb ground meat, 3 cups Italian bread crumbs, 4or 5 tbs chopped fresh garlic - who counts with garlic, salt, pepper, 2 tbs grated Romano and Parmesan, 4 eggs all pre-baked at 425 on 2 baking racks for 1/2 hr to drain grease , basically comes out to 2 meatballs per 8 oz. and broth comes out to 5 gallons without the noodles. It should come out to about 7 gallons total when the soup is poured over noodles. I make that much because the family has some kind of wedding soup radar ( the wife tells everyone) and end up giving handing out about half. I like to freeze almost couple gallons for when January comes around.

Fresh Italian bread with some good quality butter , bowl of soup and fresh ground pepper and I'm all set!
