I don't think the baffle is ceramic, but it does break easily. I clean top down and the baffle needs to come out before hand or it's VERY possible to put the brush right through it.
The Madison is not the same as the 30. I think there are two sizes of the Madison too.

Well, technically they do call many of the baffles "ceramic". But it is a ceramic fiber board...think fiberglass (but with ceramic fibers) compressed into a rigid (but kinda fragile) "board"...
Never heard of ceramic tubes...not sayin they aren't out there, just not common at all.
No, the Madison is not the same as the NC30, and yes there are two sizes of the Madison.

Tubes in the 13 and 30 are stainless steel.

This thread is garnering a lot of great info. I greatly appreciate that. I really do need details to be comfortable in a decision.
How hard is it to remove the baffles on the Englander stoves? Is it just twist and lift? Or did I read that wtong?

The 13 baffle is a tight squeeze.
On the 30, it's one screw to pull the front tube, tilt out the baffles, and you're done. Very quick. Takes longer to find the screwdriver than it does to remove those.:picard:
No idea on the Madison stoves.

The NC30 is still available...haven't seen any great sales on it since last spring ('16) when HD Durango had 'em for $500 basically.
Hey CoreyB , I see a Drolet Myriad on Ebay in Wheatland Iowa, is that close to you? That is a highly respected model of stove too...basically Drolet's version of the NC30...this one is listed as "buy it now" for $350...or "make an offer" I love those...I've gotten some great deals that way!
    wood burning stove used
EDIT: Looks like it may come with chimney too? Stove pipe at least (and double wall I think)...wording is a little vague on that. That wood be a "smoking" deal  if it does come with the chimney pipe! :)
Seller is rated 100% too...that's always good to see.

Those are nice stoves. A place near us sells them....I like the door latch on the Drolets I've seen.
Even w/o the pipe, that's a great price if it's in good shape. Really though, other than popped welds, what could be wrong with it?

I just remembered something on buying Englander stoves...there is a company that sells on Ebay that has factory seconds for a nice savings, AMFM Stoves...usually a little bit of nothing wrong with them. People have spoke highly of them. They have a Large Madison (labeled Timberidge for Lowes IIRC) right now. Free shipping to a local LTL terminal too.

It would be a six hr round trip and I would have to see if I could borrow a truck. I doubt I could load it in the mini van without tearing something up. Hmm. I will call tomorrow anyways.

What ever option you go with, you must be able to keep the house warm in the event you are away, or sick or have something that limits wood heating. 6 ladies in the house, can they fetch the wood and keep things going without you. If no, you need a back up plan even if it is electric space heaters.

I do already have 2+ years supply within 50 yards of the house. And another 2 cord in the timber stacked ready to be hauled up. The wife can handle keeping it up and the girls are pretty good at fetching it. But back-up is the plan and when I save up enough money I will put a new l.p. furnace in unless I can find a better alternative heat source. I am also adding a green house / 3 season structure to try and capture as much of the southern sun during winter . But that is more then likely next year or so.
