I need some advice, I'll be doing a small project that will require gluing small strips of wood together in a circle. I would like to use a glue that won't leave any color but is also easy to work with, what type of glue should I use?
How strong does it need to be and how difficult is it going to be to get things into position (working time). Not super strong you could use super glue but it has a short working time. Epoxy is strong and has a longer working time. Yellow glue is still the strongest.
Yep, the regular Titebond has the longest open/working time of the 3 Titebond types. Does it need to be waterproof?
Yep, Titebond Titebond Original Application Temperature Above 50°F. Open Assembly Time 4-6 minutes (70°F./50%RH) Total Assembly Time 10-15 minutes (70°F./50%RH) Not water proof Titebond III Ultimate Application Temperature Above 47°F. Open Assembly Time 8-10 minutes (70°F./50%RH) Total Assembly Time 20-25minutes (70°F./50%RH) Waterproof formula that cleans up with water interior and exterior applications Longer open assembly time Titebond Translucent Wood Glue Virtually invisible glue line Fast set - Strong bond Not water proof Application Temperature Above 50°F. Open Assembly Time 5 minutes (70°F./50%RH) Total Assembly Time 10-15 minutes (70°F./50%RH)
I wood like to put a nice clear coat of something on it, I also might stain it before, it just depends on what type of wood I use.
I hope so. I'll be making a trip into a hardware store to look at some smaller clamps or get some ideas on the best way to do it.
I just read online that one person used a rubberband or a strap, I believe he used a dowel that he would wrap the strips around.
If you use ca glue and an activator you wont need to clamp it. Since their wont be any tensile stress of a ring the ca glue should be strong enough.
If the shavings are too thin yellow glue will soak through and won't take a finish. Make sure you do a test piece first no matter what kind of glue you use.
Thanks. Since I'll be getting everything in the next three days, what glue, stain and clear coat would you use?
I'd like to see some pics of the pieces you are going to glue up first. Hard to say f[r sure without them.
