San Antonio is looking at 8-12" of rain. Suggest she stay off the River Walk.

    AKA: Girl magnet!;)

Hopefully she is taking this storm seriously. Gas, traffic and fresh water flooding are going to be the major issues. Katy (west of Houston) is out of fuel at most stations. Finding a hotel will also be a problem.

Your conference committee sounds pretty stoopid imo. Why would you send your best people out of town and into a war zone on purpose?

Add inflatable boat to the list of stuff to take.

The rainfall estimates for this storm are mind-boggling. I can't wrap my head around 36" - 40" of rain in one dose.

I can see a little of what they're thinking. This thing might stay in Texas all next week. In that case, NOLA may not see much rain at all. I'll only be in the area for a few hours, I'm already registered so I can get in and out quick. If radar or other indicators support it, I won't bother going into the city at all. I call my contact and say "sorry".

ETA: this conference pulls heavy from the oil and gas industry. I bet attendance is down with people having bigger worries in TX.

Storm is moving slightly faster than forecasted. May move inland, back out then move along coast. Ugggh, I hate this storm!

Lots of people evacuated to there, they are getting tornado warnings and tons of rain with localized flash floods. You're just getting into hill country there along with a more rocky sub soil. Good luck, are you flying? Here are a couple images for you. Arrow is pointing at Austin, circulation is circle.

I'm not liking the current track. It seems to be meandering, but favoring a slight move E/NE. The outer bands are hitting Southwest Louisiana. If this tracks east, the bands are under 200 miles from New Orleans.

My daughter and family just call they are ok. They live in Portland Tx its between Corpus Christi and Rockport. They headed inland Friday morning to wait out harvey. They were going to try and go home today and see how bad it is. I don't care how much damage they have i am glad they are ok.

    Not looking too good,

    DIRUZPfXgAA6LDn.jpg

I have no intention of this being a political comment, but after the New Orleans Mayor failing to call for evacuation for Katrina. After the Mayor of Houston failing to call for evacuation despite the urging of the Governor for this storm, I hold little hope the current NOLA would call for one as well.

I still plan on staying in Hattiesburg Tuesday. Will stay tuned in to see what I'll do on Wednesday morning.

I have life long friends in the League City /Dickinson area and good friends in Texas City, Sugarland, Beaumont and Port Arthur. All are in pretty decent shape. A little water in the garage of the friends in League City, nothing in the house.

I have a friend in Corpus Christi who evaced to Mathis. I haven't heard from her yet, but they lost cell towers down that way. She was at a family retreat build as a shelter specifically for hurricanes. I'm confident they are OK.

Glad to hear your friends are safe. I have a very good friend who lives in Houston and just built a place in Rockport. So far, he says everything is o.k. Hope it it stays that way. On a selfish note, I've got a trip planned to visit and fish later this month. Hope it doesn't turn into a clean up trip.

Over 3 days, the highest gauge reading I've seen was around 30" in Harris County. Official rainfall was about 24" , see here:
National Weather Service Text Product Display
    That's plenty, in my book.
When I was a student, coastal TX took on 43" in 24 hours. (Alvin, 1979)
    That's plenty too.

After the big flood we had here years ago it is difficult to picture what some of those areas must be like. Crazy for sure. I would not live around that area for nothing. I'll gladly deal with snow before dealing with that sort of thing.

Getting ready to push off. The organization's Facebook page says things are a go. They are keeping and eye on things too.

Decided to take the 372. Going to grab a new chain. Bar oil tank is full, gas tank is empty. I'm not going to cut a cord, just if needed to remove a tree or two from my path. If oil runs out, I'll buy a new bar and chain when I get home. Recovery strap is also in the tub now.

Only if there are no other options.

Moved saw tub into the passenger seat, almost forgot spare gas cans. These will only be filled in Hattiesburg and dumped into tank as soon as possible. I'm not keen on hauling gas cans around inside the passenger compartment. Although, these do not leak fumes.

I had a couple issues with the AR I was planning on taking. This one runs flawlessly although I don't have a rear sight. In the event of an optic failure I'll just use the center of the viewing window on the EoTec.

Not pictured are two cases of water, two cases of iced tea and a 28 quart Ozark Trail cooler. Maybe a couple of other things for night time superiority.
