I was splitting some red oak this evening and found this inside of a split. Anyone know what kind of flying critter this turns into? It was about 2.5-3" long and about 1/2" diameter. This pic was after my dog chewed and rolled on it a bit.
Its a red oak borer. I see them in a lot of red oak here in Missouri. I feed them to my neighbors box turtles and ducks.
This is a D11T Caterpillar... Sorry, couldn't resist. As for the grub...yup, seen lots of them...dunno what they turn into...except BTUs if they hang around too long
