This thread is for people to share their canning methods, recipes, tips and everything else canning. Put up some pics and lets get the ball rolling!
Hi Pete, long time no see. At first glance I was was thinking of canned food for donation, like for a food pantry. haha my bad
Half sour pickles, Maine blueberry jam and tomato jam. Grape and crabapple jelly in the coming weeks, then tomato sauce and stews. Maybe some chunky homemade ketchup too.
Fridge pickles and some salsa I was too lazy to can. Yup, that's 3.5 gallons of pickles. They won't last long.
We have a few jars of what we can on display above the dining room window. Right to left: Cool carving ( fishingpol ), pickled jalapenos, pickled beets, salsa, jalapeno jelly, zucchini relish, empty jar (will be tomato juice), bread and butter pickles, hot sauce. The other side repeats. Not pictured: blackberry jam, grape jelly, smoked pepper hot sauce. I need to make another batch of smoked hot sauce this year....I'll try to remember to take some pics and post the process of making it. If you like spicy, smoky stuff...this will change to life. OK, probably not....but its hella good.
What is the fascination with canning jars? We give canned food away and ask for the jar back and never get it back. Its not like they are a rarity.
I checked out your woodworking and forging link Jon, you got some great stuff there, you are very talented that's for sure. As former Walnut Square boy, I had to love your name on the site.
Can't beat that, having homemade sauce ready to go. The Mrs is now prepping ingredients for sauce that will be made tomorrow and canned. I'll be making grape jelly real early in the morning.
