Nice shed! I don't have a chute, but I picked up this slide at the dump today. It will go down the bulkhead nicely. I can't dump a wheelbarrow load, but one-at-a-time is OK.
Bogydave, do you think wood takes longer (than in the lower 48) to dry in your climate? Would your birch have been dry enough to burn before now?
2 years gets below 20% & does good in the cat stove. (one year uncovered outside & 1 year in the shed) However; I've noticed it burns much, much better with 3 years seasoned (1 year outside & 2 years in the shed) (similar to Oak in the lower 48) + , the 3 year plan has other benefits Longer warmer summers in the NE maybe it'd dry a littler faster This 4 year stuff should almost light itself. How long it take birch to get near 15% in NH ? MA?
Can't say, this is the first year I've owned a moisture meter. Ferris? Anyone? I have high hopes that this batch split today is ready for 18/19. We have warmish weather into October
In my neck of the woods, 2 years easy. One in the stacks and one in the shed. Although, this year we were much wetter than in past summers, might have affected some drying times slightly. Easy to get Birch and Ash dry the quickest
Could frost at any time now Sept we'll get some low 20°s at night , snow before Halloween Norm is Dec,Jan,Feb for the below zero stuff Buuuuuuut you never know...one year 40° on Christmas
That does not sound like optimal wood drying weather. You are double tough to get a 3 year supply in the bank!
it got to 40 over nite here and we left all the windows open almost lit it but sun came up and it got to 68 purrfeccct! might shut some windows tonight though
Brrrrr. Pineapple Express keeping us in the 50°s but lots of rain That should change soon, had a N wind yesterday, a sign things are changing Had a fire yesterday, to dry things out Too hot but was raining & a breeze so windows open.
The 16/17 wood section won't all fit in the basement So I'm culling out all but the good straight stuff Gotta make room for the 19/20 wood that's stacked out back Need A "not so ugly" stack
