Grandpa had a dozen or more in his house he collected over the years. He would wait till it cooled off then wrap a trash bag around it with a rag inside that was soaked in enough chemicals to knock over a horse. Crazy old man. Loved blowing stumps up with black powder. I miss that man
Apparently its like being stuck with a hot poker. A lady told me she was at the dump, getting rid of an old mattress. When she dumped it, hornets just went Apechit on her, in the shirt and all that. Felt like fire she said. She didn't know they were there at all.
I got into a nest once. Felt like I took a couple hot ones to the chest. I've never been shot with a small caliber gun but that's what suspect it feels like.
Funny thing I was just reading some family history my grandpa put together last week about some land we own and there's a part about my great gramp and great great gramp, who used to work in a powder factory blowing up virgin timber stumps nightly to clear some land.
so no one would scout them out in city park.. grab A bb gun and wait til kids that were pickin on them got near it., drop 10 bs in it for revenge.. Well I never did either or wait for a cold morning put in kitchen garbage bag and put them in someone's car...
+1 They eat / feed the larva aphids & other bugs If not in an area to bother people, good critters to have policing the garden
I had a nice one in one of my trees that I gave to my neighbor who took it to Idaho to give to their daughter who was a teacher. There was no sign of life when it was bagged up for travel.
I was stung by a hornet a few weeks ago. Unbeknownst to me, the hornets built a nest around the side of the snowmobile shed. Unfortunately for me, I pizzed them off when I opened the roll up gargantuan door on it. One, thankfully just one, went up my shorts and nailed my on the knee and took off. That hurt like a mofo. That nest didn't last the night. Revenge.
I've been stung by bees, Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets were the worst, swarm nailed me 25 - 30 times
somewhere near my garden is a bald faced hornet nest ( or several ) . They've been stripping the outer layer of grey fiber off of one pole that supports some grape vines. The whole southern side of the pole is almost all yellow now instead of grey. Why the one pole and not the others - who knows. A lot of wasps have some beneficial reasons to leave them be, but you can't have them some places when the nest gets huge and they defend it with a larger more aggressive army in the Fall. I have a all black solitary wasp ( dunno what kind ) that stuffs grass and weed strands in the tracks of my storm windows. They can fly around carrying some really long dried out blades of grass.
A couple of weeks ago as I was pulling the tractor out of the shed I just happened to look up and saw this hornets nest 2 inches above the canopy of the tractor As it got bigger it hung lower and lower . I can't believe first that I was there and second that I never noticed it as it got larger and sank closer to hitting the tractor I knewI had to get rid of it . A cold front came through and it got pretty chilly so I went out at night use the whole can of hornet spray on it. Then I put Ash garbage pail under it. I clipped the branch it fell into the pail and I put the cover on . I just went out and took the cover off and some pics to post. I think they were bald faced hornets and was glad to be rid of them without getting stung.
Get as close as you can with tannerite and remote detonate. When I did it, it was a few feet away and NOTHING was left.
As a former blazer owner I am currently envisioning the outcome. Your back hatch opened? The actuator disabled itself on mine... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
